If you are looking to hire a contractor, DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! Make sure that you ask the contractor to walk you through two of their most recent projects. This is so important because you get to see the type of work that they do. Are they the type of contractor that tries to get things done cheap to make the most money or are they the type of contractor that focuses on the workmanship and pushes his subcontractors to perfect their craft? Look at every detail, the cabinetry, the molding, the tile work, the paint job. Do you see a lot of imperfections that could have been avoided? This will tell you so much about the contractor. I can’t tell you how many people reach out to me telling me that they have to correct the work of the subcontractors. This shouldn’t be your job. The contractor should try their best to catch things before you do. Make sure that you hire someone that is very detail oriented to ensure this doesn’t happen. While you may not be paying for perfection, you are paying to be made happy so it’s important that you find someone that aligns with your vision and expectations.
