Really though, a huge theme of my ~reconstruction journey~ has been realizing that sometimes the choices I make are just as influenced by my upbringing—but in rebellion against it. After leaving a high-demand religion, it can feel like your life’s mission is to prove it wrong by becoming everything it told you you couldn’t be.
