People with High Functioning Depress!on are often Pleasers, I know, I used to be one of them. ✋🏽🙃 These behaviors may stem from childhood trauma and being neglected. The “good girl” is the one that parents and attachment figures don’t have to “worry” about. However, these good girls have learned that being “easy” and “compliant” is what makes them lovable. Additionally, People with HFD have a tendency to try to rescue others and it doesn’t work. ❤️‍🩹 People will not appreciate your help when they don’t want to be helped. Plus these people end up blaming you when you help them and they don’t get a desired outcome. 😞 Instead focus on yourself and put efforts where they will pay off. You will never regret investing in you but you may regret investing in someone who doesn’t deserve it. ✨ #highfunctioning #highfunctioningaf #highfuntioningbook #peoplepleasers #whofides *not meant to replace current care* #creatorsearchinsights #pathologicalpeoplepleaser
Remember that time your family came over to a party that you hosted? 👀 Many of us believe our families are supposed to be perfect but many families are in fact very dysfunctional. 😢 Many with HFD (high functioning depress!on) experience early life trauma and neglect. 🤔 What is generational trauma? This early life trauma of neglect or emotional mistreatment may lead one to busy themselves to distract from and cope with past pain so they are too busy to vet their partner ❤️‍🩹 I started using characters to demonstrate family dynamics because in psychiatry, classifying characteristics by problematic traits is how professionals are able to tailor treatments.🥸🎭 The Narc parent is often paired with the passive parent and the Narc Parent often has a favorite child and a less fortunate child that is neglected. The Narc parent is often competitive and jealous. These behaviors are often learned from previous generations! Do you see why family systems and dynamics are important? 🤔 It’s also important to classify certain interpersonal dynamics so that people can understand how traits play out in real life. For example, having narc parents makes you more likely to seek out relationships with narc individuals.❤️‍🩹 Being in competitive sibling relationships is usually related to narc parents who encourage praising and devaluing. 👧🏽 👦🏻 When people understand family systems they are able to understand repetitive themes in their own lives. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Do you see your family here? People with high functioning depress!on (HFD) tend to have unhealthy relationships because of people pleasing, causing them to have weak boundaries and imposter syndrome, leading them to not feeling good enough to say “no” when others mistreat them. 🙃 They may also gravitate towards emotionally unavailable individuals with avoidant attachment because of patterns they learned in early childhood related to being neglected by a distracted or self absorbed parental figure.😔 A therapist may challenge a person with HFD to start limiting their exposure to unhealthy relationships but because this feels unfamiliar it may be difficult to implement even though on a conscious level the person with HFD knows this is the best choice for them.🤔 It takes time to get accustomed to the idea that you are worthy of love, respect, and reciprocity. In my book “High Functioning” I help readers to decide which relationships to salvage, which relationships to let go of and how to stop being a martyr. 🫂❤️‍🩹 #peoplepleaser #healthyrelationships #avoidantattachment #anxiousattachment #hfd #highfunctioningbook #highfunctioningaf *page is not advice or care. Not sure how trauma dumping has impacted you? 👇🏽 Take my trauma quiz to better understand your past trauma.✅ In my book “High Functioning” I talk about modern mental health and how trauma is passed on in a Modern age, which if let unresolved, may lead to High Functioning depress!on. 📕 When we trauma dump onto those in less power than us, such as our kids, our employees and people who answer or depend on us we put them in a situation where they have little choice. 🤔🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Children will listen to parents vent and may seem to be okay with this but deep down they comply so that they are not rejected by the parent who is someone that they need and depend on.😢🫂🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 #traumadumping #childhoodtrauma #highfunctioningbook #highfunctioningaf #hfd *page is not meant to replace or provide current care* #creatorsearchinsights #generationaltrauma #BlackTikTok
When I coined the term “Scarcity Trauma” I was conducting a research study on PTSD in my Midtown Manhattan laboratory. I realized that many therapists dont talk about scarcity and that this is because they dont come from scarcity and never lacked resources. After I started using the term the concept went viral, soon famous therapists were reaching out to thank me for talking about a topic they had never addressed. Like many other Millennials, I graduated with hundreds of thousands in student loan debt. 💵 This triggered my fears related to scarcity trauma and contributed to many poor choices in life. I chose paths, not because they fulfilled me, but because I was afraid to take risks and to lose it all.❤️‍🩹 I used to be so ashamed of where I came from because most of my peers had more resources. 😔 Now, I am so proud that I have overcome scarcity trauma and I speak openly about my past so that others can shed their shame and speak their truth. 🫂 I am fortunate that I can now give back to my community and that I am an advocate for health equity. 👩🏽‍⚕️ What’s your scarcity trauma story and how has it shaped your path? 📲👇🏽 #scarcitytrauma #scarcitymindset #anhedonia #peoplepleaser #highfunctioningaf #tiktokpartner *page is not replacing or providing your care* #creatorsearchinsights
Who can relate? 🙋🏾‍♀️ Setting Boundaries at work can feel unfamiliar for those living with High Functioning Depress!on (HFD) because your whole identity is your work and when you say “no” you feel guilty. 👩🏻‍💻👨🏽‍💻 It may be helpful to take baby steps rather than setting harsh and extreme boundaries because changes in behavioral patterns take time, practice and patience. ⌛️🕰️ Try to not be too hard on yourself when you slip into old patterns. Self compassion is important. ❤️‍🩹 #highfunctioningaf #highfunctioningbook #boundaries #hfd #peoplepleaser #tgif *this page does not replace your current care* #creatorsearchinsights #workaholicboyfriend #workaholic #tiktokpartner
Setting New Year resolutions can feel daunting and it feels like another “to-do.”📋 People may resent having things they “should” do which may cause them on an unconscious level to rebel. ❤️‍🩹 Leaving things behind makes you feel as if you are making a choice without pressure of feeling like you “should” do something. 🙏🏽 Leaving things behind in the old year makes you feel like you left and rejected a habit rather than you feeling like you failed or were rejected because you didn’t keep a resolution. 🫂❤️ What are you leaving behind in 2024?👇🏽 *page does not replace your current care* #2024 #2025 #newyear #resolutions #leavingbehind2024 #highfunctioningaf #highfunctioningbook #tiktokpartner #whofides #creatorsearchinsights #quotesforhealingprocess #peoplepleaser
