Rescuing Buttercup will forever be one of my favorite rescue stories. She endured six long years in a metal crate, giving birth to over 140 piglets—only to have them stolen from her, knowing they were all sent to slaughter. For six years, she couldn’t turn around, see the sky, or touch grass. Six years of unimaginable torture and abuse. But then, we got the chance to liberate this incredible queen and give her the life she always deserved. Buttercup is the sweetest pig on earth, despite having every reason to hate humans. She deserves only the best things in life. Yet, while Buttercup was rescued, the rest of the breeding sows were not so lucky. They were released from their tiny crates, only to be loaded onto a truck and slaughtered. We begged to save them all, but we were only permitted to take Buttercup. We made a promise to her that day: for the rest of time, we will share her story, hoping it inspires people to choose compassion over killing.
