I’m serious about these rules and I think everyone coming is just as excited about the weekend’s parameters! Day time: only cozy/quiet activities welcome Night time: Let the games and socializing commence! Toss in a grown up book fair, an afternoon tea, good food, hot beverages, a movie night, and a hot tub = perfect weekend Last year, I read *The Art of Gathering* by @priyaparker, and it completely transformed how I approach hosting memorable and impactful events. Since then, I’ve been focused on hosting gatherings with clear expectations, intentions, and themes—and it’s been amazing. For example, I hosted a Bridgerton premiere tea party with a dress code and specific intentions and it was such a hit! I’ve also hosted potion-themed birthday parties and intimate tea gatherings with friends. These thoughtful touches truly make a difference. This month, I’m thrilled about my cozy retreat gathering. I’ve invited my Book club group, and I think it’s exactly what we all need to unwind after the holiday hustle. Stay tuned for more updates on how I’m bringing this retreat to life! #kelsewhatelse #cozyretreat #artofgathering #midwesternmom #afternoontea #bookretreat #readingretreat #bookishretreat
This might be the most ridiculous wake up time we've ever had for a flight. But we needed to make it home to Kansas City and a big ice storm / snowstorm was rolling in 3 hours before our originally scheduled flight was to land. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of why didn't you ____ or ____. And I promise you this was a very thought-thru plan. Simply put, we had to come home. And we had to fly out of Tampa . We couldn't wait it out in Florida. So we took our best chance to beat the ice and make it safely home. And thank goodness we did because we would have been stuck in Florida until at least Tuesday or Thursday. Had we waited and tried to get on our original flight that did end up being canceled because the entire airport shut down. When you travel as much as we do, last minute- unexpected changes happen. Weather happens. You have to learn how to make quick decisions, be flexible, and just roll with it. Sometimes you have to get through the hard stuff to do the cool stuff! Thank you @Southwest Airlines For being so helpful with our flights! This is why we love to fly Southwest. . . . . #kelsewhatelse #travelwithtoddler #familytravel #kansascityinfluencer #kansascityicestorm #kansascitysnowstorm
Replying to @kendalvol.6 so are you guys just not visiting your families/ loves ones regularly if they move 2 hours+ away? or Maybe they don't typically move away? I think it is definitely a sad bit of American culture that we move away from our families probably because we don't consider distance as big of a hurdle? I would trade that I think. #europevsamerica #europevsusa #kelsewhatelse
No plans. No brain cells left. ONLY SURVIVAL. I thought it might be helpful to show you exactly how our family (traveling with young kids) adjusts to jet lag on our first day in a new country. The best way to tackle jet lag is to stay awake as long as possible so that you can quickly adjust to your new time zone. But when you land in a country at 7 a.m. And your body thinks it's 1am, That means you have a long way to go. And of course our rental house never opens to dump our stuff off until at least 4:00 p.m.. So that means we're staring down an 11-hour day where we've got to keep everybody awake and going, with all of our luggage in tow. We try our best to choose low impact yet active activities and we try to stay outside in the Sun as much as possible! Because the sun helps you adjust! Obviously this time, even with all of our best efforts, our plans were led astray by a bit of a medical emergency. Talk about bad timing. But it all worked out in the end. And sometimes you got to do the hard stuff to do the fun stuff. . . . . #kelsewhatelse #jetlag #travelwithkids #momtips #travelwithtoddler #familytraveltips
Europeans please give your opinions. I think Americans, Canadians, and Australians are all in the same boat here when it comes to travel times and perspective on what "far away" means Because to me, 6 hours and under is pretty close. I live in Kansas City. It takes me 13 hours of driving to get to an ocean and 10 hours of driving to get to a mountain. Denver's pretty close at 9 hours away to me. . . . . #kelsewhatelse #europevsusa #europevsamerica
We were doing yoga in the airport at 5:00 a.m. This weekend. We've done airport yoga at 12:00 a.m.. Airport yoga for the win all the time to get your kids' wiggles out for a flight. We just make sure they wash their hands right after. . . . #kelsewhatelse #midwesternmom #kansascityinfluencer #travelwithkids #momtips @cosmickidsyogaofficial
The key to ACTUALLY enjoying Paris with small children is DEPTH not BREADTH. Or to say it another way, quality not quantity. Paris has loads of amazing things to see. You could explore the city for years and never see everything. So when we only have 9 hours, our choice was to either hop on hop off buses and run around like crazy to see all the major sites. Or pick a small handful and really take our time to enjoy them. And that's how we try to travel with little kids, pick a few things and really let them explore and experience it. And that's what we did! This trip was a surprise for my son who has been obsessed with Paris since he was two. And his priorities were the Eiffel Tower and Mona Lisa. I reached out to @the.petit.guide and told her our goals for the day and she planned our perfect Paris itinerary! Our day wouldn't have been nearly as successful without her. (@francette_restaurant was so cool!) And I'm so glad she recommended that we contact @paris_and_beyond_tours (hosted) to take us on a family-friendly tour of the Louvre. We learned much more about the Louvre and had a more relaxing time and saw so much more with the little time that we had because of our guide! Driving 6 hours for 9 hours in a city in a whole other country isn't necessarily practical. But we don't cross oceans for practical, we cross oceans for adventure! . . . . #kelsewhatelse #pariswithkids #familytravel #wecrossoceansforadventure
Trying to think smarter, Not harder on this one. That way I don't end up having to drive to the grocery store for a bag of carrots next time. I tried convincing my children that a popsicle makes a great nose for a snowman, But after reading so many books about snowmen and watching so many shows, they could not be convinced. With this many carrots, and this many berries. Hopefully we should be good for the rest of the winter season here in Kansas City! . . . #kansascityicestorm #kelsewhatelse #midwestmom #momtips #kansascityinfluencer
Have you ever taught them what "sleepy" physically feels like? Because I know I haven't. A lightbulb went off for me today when I was begging my son to go potty and he was swearing up and down that he DIDN'T have to go. It was clear to me that he needed to go but he swore he didn't have to. I just thought he was being stubborn. Just like every time this happens, he seemed genuinely surprised to learn he DID have to go. Then it hit me. He doesn't know. He feels the feeling of a full bladder but he hasn't made the connection to needing to potty. I realized that I just assumed he knew (and he will eventually figure it out like we all do) but right now, He doesn't know that his body is telling him he is hungry, thirsty, tired , hot , cold, etc. Why do we just assume little kids, new to their bodies, just what their symptoms mean, when we as adults don't always know? And how does this knowledge change how we communicate with, teach, and expect of our children? . . . . #kelsewhatelse #bodylanguagegame #midwesternmom #howtotalktotoddlers #momtips
