I’m celebrating #Kwanzaa by posting a principle poem a day. Here’s a very personal take on today’s principle #KUJICHAGULIA (self-determination). #HabariGani? (What’s the news?) What principle reflections do you have today? What lines resonate?

Kwanzaa is a time to celebrate our rich heritage, community, and shared values. It’s a week of reflection, unity, and renewal, rooted in the seven principles (Nguzo Saba): Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith). In our Black community, we honor the spirit of Kwanzaa by coming together, supporting Black-owned businesses, sharing stories, and embracing our cultural traditions. Let’s continue to uplift each other and celebrate the beauty of who we are. #Kwanzaa #NguzoSaba #BlackCommunity #Unity #SelfDetermination #Kujichagulia #CollectiveWork #CooperativeEconomics #Purpose #Creativity #Faith #CelebrateBlackCulture #SupportBlackBusiness #UpliftBlackVoices #basl #deaftiktok #fyp
HABARI GANI? (WHAT'S THE NEWS?) Kujichagulia (Self-determination) As children we had everyone telling us who we were and who we were supposed to become. Very rarely was the seed planted to determine that for ourselves. As adults many of us are challenged with being the person our family, friends, and community need us to be and who we feel at our core. Who are you on soul level? How are you connecting that to how you live? #Kwanzaa #Day2 #SelfDetermination #kujichagulia
As we celebrate Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) on this second day of Kwanzaa, we're reminded of the power in defining our own paths and telling our own stories. The recent book signing for The Peace Doctor's Playbook was a testament to that spirit, with so many individuals coming together to commit to personal growth and self-discovery. Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared in this journey of empowerment. Let’s continue to write our own narratives and create stronger, more powerful versions of ourselves. #Kujichagulia #ThePeaceDoctorsPlaybook #Kwanzaa2024 #SelfDetermination

Happy Kwanzaa!! Take time out to honor yourself and your ancestors for all that has been accomplished! Continue to show and educate the younger generations so they can achieve even more!! #blackexcellence #kwanzaa #kujichagulia #selfdetermination
Herí Za Kwanzaa! 🎉 It's Kwanzaa Day 2: Kujichagulia - Self-Determination 🖤 Today, we affirm our right to define for ourselves, name for ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves. We take ownership of our identity, our future, and our voices. Say it loud like as "The Black Panther Party" said All power to the people! ✊🏾 Let us stand strong in our self-determination, shaping our lives and communities with purpose and pride. #TheStickyIkyTruth #Kwanzaa #Kujichagulia #SelfDetermination #Empowerment #AllPowerToThePeople
Kwanzaa - Kujichagulia The second principle of the Nguzo Saba is Kujichagulia (Self-Determination). This too expresses itself as both commitment and practice. It demands that we as an African people define, defend and develop ourselves instead of allowing or encouraging others to do this. It requires that we recover lost memory and once again shape our world in our own image and interest. And it is a call to recover and speak our own special cultural truth to the world and make our own unique contribution to the forward flow of human history. Celebrate KWANZAA! Heri Za Kwanzaa. Habari gani?! #kwanzaa2023 #Kwanzaa #NguzoSaba #Habaragani #RespectTheVoodoo #LOVEmyNewOrleans #RespectTheAncestors 🟥🟥🟥⬛🟩🟩🟩 #Kujichagulia 🪱Respect The Voodoo™🌈 ✍🏽 http://www.houseofthedivineprince.com/contact-us.html
The second principle demands that we define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves instead of allowing others to do this.🫶🏾🖤❤️💚🖤❤️💚 • • • • • #kwanzaa #blackgirltiktok #fyp #kujichagulia #blackfamily

Sacred Utterances as Tools of Self-determination Each sacred word we speak is an act of Kujichagulia. When we choose "Kuwa sasa" (being present) over distraction, or "Iwa pele" (gentle character) over hardness, we're wielding ancient tools of healing. Our languages carry codes of AfRaKan kansciousness. "Sankofa" teaches us to reclaim our past. "Ashe" reminds us of our creative and Neter power. "Ma'at" guides us to truth and balance. Each utterance breaks another chain of colonial thinking. Each utterance can be a source of emotional healing and spiritual improvement. In moments of doubt, speak "Nguvu zangu" (my strength). When seeking clarity, invoke "Ori" (Neter kansciousness). These aren't just translations - they're transformations. Our ancestors encoded healing frequencies in these sounds. Through these sacred words, we practice self-determination. Each choice to speak our mother tongues is a choice to heal our emotional wounds. Each AfRaKan centered word ramembered is a piece of ourselves raclaimed. Start today. Choose seven words from our AfRaKan languages. Utter the words throughout your day. Instead of saying hola to your AfRaKan child or complementary partner, say "sawubona." Instead of saying thank you, say "medaase." When you want to express gratitude to someone, say "Nina shukrani nyingi." Choose AfRaKan centered utterances, your ancestors' utterances, as your medicine. Allow them to guide your liberation and kujichagulia. Amani na baraka! Abibifahodie! Habari gani? R. Zawadi Djehuti (Coach Raaq) --- About the Author: R.
