Lipedema is not only a FAT disorder, its an INFLAMMATORY disorder as well. Lipedema patients can gain 2-5lbs in a very short span of time without signs of swelling at all. This type of weight gain is not fat, but FLUID! Lipedema patients have inflammatory responses to different foods. For some, an egg can cause heavier legs. Others cant touch pork without gaining a few pounds. A glass of wine will send me to “Leg Elevation Nation” for a few days. If lipedema parients cannot unravel the number on the scale from a “moral failing” it poses a danger to our mental health and during the food-centeic holidays it can be eapecially difficult to come to peace with our bodies. When we eliminate foods that cause us this reaction (and spend a few days getting rid of the fluid 🚽) our weight will change again in the opposite direction.
