In honor of Feeding Tube Awareness week I’m excited to share Marcy is starting solid food feeding therapy. As most of you know Marcy is fed solely via G-tube. Marcy has a swallowing dysphasia that they believe is one of the results of the brain damage she experienced at birth (we hopefully will know more soon if this is accurate). Marcy is alive today because of the technology we have to feed people this way. While this is never what I wanted or anticipated for Marcy I feel incredibly grateful for the angels we have found in our feeding tube community and health system. Marcy has shown no interest in food, and continues to aspirate on her saliva alone, however we get to move forward in trying to get her used to the idea even if it means just playing with food and maybe wake her brain up to new possibilities. It’s hard to be excited because I don’t want to be sad if nothing comes from this, so I am going in with the attitude of it can’t hurt to try and I do not have an expectation of any particular outcome. One thing is for sure, we love Marcy just the way she is. And are so thankful for feeding tubes and the lives they save!
