One of my favorites! I left my old traced patrern upstate, but it would’ve been even quicker if I’d had that. These are really versatile and are awesome for 2000s and punky looks in particular. Layer them over a cutsew and go! And you can use scraps from other projects if you get creative.
Again, I wash with oxiclean (or any other oxygen bleach) and white vinegar in different soaks. Hot water helps oxi dissolve and isnt going to harm polyester but maybe be a little more delicate with older cottons (just feel it out). This was $5.99CAD or $4.19USD for 38 yards (!!) of different laces. That poly insertion lace is the largest yardage but nothing was under four yards. So, roughly $0.11/yard USD. Again, not bad at all and hopefully I can do some cool things. My recommendationa for poly raschel lace are always monochromatic pieces and accessories that won’t be close to skin. The eyelet would be really fun on some peeking bloomers. — #egl #eglcommunity #eglcomm #eglfashion #eglsewing #lolitasewing
Color pile will be dyed, whites and ivories will be cleaned with my standard procedure of oxygen bleach and white vinegar soaks. (Which all of it will get eventually.) For the price break down… $5CAD is around $3.50USD. So 3.5/56 gets you pretty close to $0.06/yard. Some of these would be quite expensive in a shop! Some are definitely meant for seam finishing. But it’s all useful stuff that will now be used for fun projects and not landfill. I have a few more bags upstate but no more in NYC. So this will be the last batch I process for a while. — #eglsewing #lolitasewing #eglcommunity #eglcomm #eglfashion #upcycling
Tips for washing thrifted/charity shop trim and lace include oxyclean (or another oxygen bleach!) and white vinegar. This is all polyester raschel so I’m not terribly concerned about it being damaged in the wash. I will have to use specialized polyester dyes if I do want change the color. So I’m hoping it brightens up to a true ivory or warm white with a good bath. Raschel can be a little scratchy, so I recommend this type of lace more for accessories or items that won’t directly touch skin. I also think it looks best in monochromatic, low contrast pieces. (So black x black, white x white), etc. If you’re curious about price, this is $3.99CAD or $2.80USD for 15.5 meters or 17ish yards. So, $0.16/yard US for 2.5” lace. Not bad! And also again, not bought new so maybe a tiny bit better for the planet. Maybe. — #lolitasewing #eglsewing #egl #egltiktok #lolitafashion #eglfashion #eglfashioncommunity #eglcommunity #upcycling #upcycledfashion
