Those with thyroid imbalances, including Hashimoto’s, may be more susceptible to histamine intolerance – but you are not destined to have histamine tolerance, and high histamine foods are not evil. There are reversible causes and solutions! Often a temporary low-histamine diet is helpful, but it’s crucial to address the root causes of histamine intolerance as well. These may include low P5P (vitamin B6) levels, a zinc deficiency, gut imbalances (like Candida, H. pylori, or SIBO), mold exposure, mehtylation issues, or estrogen dominance. I find that implementing a low-histamine diet while also addressing those root causes really helps people feel better and ultimately tolerate histamine better.
