Basic obedience skills are more than just rattling off a series of commands. They’re about connecting with the dog in a meaningful way so there’s a mutual respect and that dog wants to work towards what you’re asking. Our prison trainers learn to connect with the dogs they train and the end result is always so beautiful to see. These connections require patience and a general understanding of each dog’s motivations. She hid her injuries until she was safe enough to show us how much she truly needed our help. The longest and strongest bone in the body, it would take a lot to break a femur and that’s exactly what Mist was hiding a broken femur 😞. We aren’t sure how she wasn’t screaming in pain. This sweet girl sat at the shelter for almost a month carefully hiding her injury. Shelter staff didn’t notice her funny walk and we didn’t notice it either until she was out and in foster care. As soon as we saw that she was having difficulty X-rays were ordered and the broken bone was found. We can’t imagine how painful that break must have been. Mist needs surgery to fix her broken leg and sadly because the break happened awhile ago it’s going to take specialty vet services to repair the damage. We’re looking at a $3,000-5,000 vet bill. That’s a lot of money but if it means Mist will have a pain free life with a chance at adoption it’s something we have to do. Can you help us help Mist? Flower 🌼 is a dog who was a shelter staff favorite. She was taken to multiple adoption events, and had zero interest. Due to space, time, and no interest, Flower, was placed on the euthanasia list. Thanks to shelter volunteers Denise Lynn Smith and Kelci Van Der Horst we saw Flower’s videos, and heard about what an amazing dog she was. Then, one of our incredible fosters, Julie Meyer-Long, said she could foster Flower, giving us the help, and space, we needed to be able to rescue her. Flower is now in her Foster home, waiting for her forever home, thanks to the hard work of volunteers and her foster. Flower’s story is one that plays on repeat for us. Twas the day before Christmas and 10 little souls had an amazing 1st meal served in several bowls. It’s been a tough year and with our ranch full to the brim the only way we can pull and help dogs in need right now is with foster assistance. The holidays are a tough time to find open foster families. Everyone is just so busy! Bringing a new dog in is often not a doable option. So when we do get a yes we cherish those yeses even more. This sweet little girl desperately needed the yes she got. With an ugly injury to her eye she wasn’t adoptable to the public and needed rescue to step up. A fosters yes has given her the chance she was waiting for! She’s headed into foster care and will see our vet. We aren’t sure if we can restore her vision in the damaged eye but we do know that because of that yes she now has her chance at life.
