No Music Monday, featuring images of Martin Luther King Jr. walking up the stairs and across the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, taken on April 3, 1968. Tragically, King was assassinated the following day at this very location on April 4, 1968. 📸 1 by Barney Sellers. 📸 2 by Charles Kelly The motel served as a sanctuary for black travelers, including legendary musicians like Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Nat King Cole, and Aretha Franklin. Among them, King was their most renowned visitor and had made numerous stays before the fateful night of his death. Today, the motel stands as an integral part of the National Civil Rights Museum, dedicated to preserving and honoring King’s remarkable legacy. I highly recommend taking a visit if you find yourself in the area.
