For White Lie Day, I stayed true to my fashionista reputation and wore a glittered shirt adorned with a sign that read, “I’m nosey.” My students know this isn’t just a white lie—it’s very true! I shared a heartfelt story about how my “nosiness” (or as I prefer to call it, being knowledgeable) once helped a student out of a difficult situation. This fun and engaging activity also turned into a grammar and vocabulary lesson where we explored the word untruth, defined what a white lie is, and discussed when it’s okay to tell one. The class debated the fine line between curiosity to help others and nosiness that leads to drama. By the end, I reminded a specific student: be nosy to help, but never to create drama. It was a glittery, insightful, and unforgettable day! #WhiteLieDay #FashionistaTeacher #MiddleSchoolELA #Nosey #Nosy #VocabularyLesson #grammar #GrammarLesson #Teacherfun #EnglishLanguageArts #TeachersOfTikTok #NosyButHelpful #ExpandYourVocabulary #FunInTheClassroom #CreativeTeaching #MiddleSchoolTeacher #EngagingLessons #WordStudy #LivelyLearning
✨ Want to teach your students how to write suspenseful scenes? Try the power of short sentences! ✍🏽 Here’s why it works: ✏️Short sentences create pauses, making readers stop and feel the tension. ✏️They mimic the way we think when we’re scared or nervous. ✏️The quick rhythm builds anticipation, pulling readers to the edge of their seats. #middleschoolteacher #elementaryschool #elateacher #writingideas #englishteacher #teachingwriting #teachersontiktok #middleschoolela #teachingontiktok #teachingtips #teacherlife #literacycoach #middleschool #creativewritingteacher #homeschooling #homeschoolersoftiktok #writingtips #teachingkids #teachertok #texasteachers
Unlike traditional bell ringers that may simply ask students to write or respond, this activity encourages students to create suspense, use strong verbs, and experiment with sentence structure. ❄️📚 With this activity, students will: ✏️Break down a single moment into short, punchy sentences to build tension and focus on details. ✏️Replace basic verbs with more vivid, action-packed words to bring their writing to life. 💥 ✏️Use figurative language and sensory details, allowing them to express feelings and make their writing more dynamic. But here's the best part: By the end of the week, the sentences they worked on form a complete, funny or mysterious story! 🎉 Students will see how their individual sentence challenges come together to create a hilarious or suspense-filled narrative about winter mishaps. #middleschoolteacher #creatorsearchinsights #elementaryschool #writingideas #englishteacher #teachersontiktok #middleschoolela #teachersontiktok #teachingontiktok #teachingtips #literacycoach #teachertok #teachingkids #writingtips #creativewritingteacher #homeschooling #lessonplans

Want to help your students write edge-of-your-seat suspense stories? Try this step-by-step strategy. 🌀 Start with a reaction from another character. 📚 Add background to show why the stakes are high. 👀 Show the protagonist watching others succeed. ⏳ Build tension as they procrastinate. 💭 Let them try, fail, and think it through. ✨ Include a learning moment that inspires them. 🔥 Slow down the big moment with vivid emotions and actions. 🗣️ Finish with a powerful inner dialogue and a mix of long and short sentences for impact. Read any mentor text and create a suspense arc that students can use as a template for their own stories. 🎯 Ready to try it?
