#MidwesternMom: Practical, wholesome, and down-to-earth. Think casserole recipes, comfy sweaters, and strong opinions on yard sales. Often embraces family, faith, and a touch of "bless her heart."
Here is the update! TLDR: it was the perfect weekend (Hosted) The house was the "Stillwell" managed by Cozy in KC And it could not have been more perfect for our needs. Six bedrooms. Five king beds. Two queen beds. Huge couches and the biggest hot tub I've ever seen. Here were the rules: Day time: only cozy/quiet activities welcome Night time: Let the games and socializing commence! - When I sent the invitation, I informed everybody of the rules and recommended that they consider whether or not they could keep quiet and cozy during the day before they agreed to come. Over the weekend, I reminded everybody a couple of times that we promised quiet to the retreat goers to help everyone get settled in. And then at night, we laughed and socialized into the wee hours of the morning! Toss in a grown-up book fair, an afternoon tea, good food, hot beverages, a game night, and a hot tub = perfect weekend Last year, I read *The Art of Gathering* by @priyaparker, and it completely transformed how I approach hosting memorable and impactful events. Since then, I’ve been focused on hosting gatherings with clear expectations, intentions, and themes—and it’s been amazing. The feedback from the group was that the retreat was amazing and life- giving on two fronts because it was both both restful, and good for the soul to be in good company. We will absolutely be doing this on a yearly basis. #kelsewhatelse #cozyretreat #artofgathering #midwesternmom #afternoontea #bookretreat #readingretreat #bookishretreat

Replying to @kikis_book_s The complete cost breakdown for the Cozy retreat for nine people. Obviously, prices are going to change based on how many people are splitting the total price, what kind of food you get, what type of house you're staying in, etc Under $300 for two nights stay in a luxury house, All you can eat meals, snacks, coffee, tea, soda, boozy Bev's, candy, a book fair where you leave with a TON, and an overall fun experience.... Seems like a pretty good deal to me! Here's how you can make it even cheaper: - take out the flowers, face masks, mugs and tote bag and you immediately save $50 a person - make all of your food ahead of time and that will save on costs - have people bring their own food and drinks - host a retreat in your home! I could have kicked my family out to Grandma's house and hosted in my home for the weekend. At the end of the day, people are there to be cozy and cozy is free! If you get creative, the rest of it can be nearly free as well! #kelsewhatelse #cozyretreat #readingretreat #bookishretreat #midwesternmom
What's something that you changed your mind on because you learned more about it? Other things that I have learned to love/ more fully appreciate because I learned to " recognize the voices" aka learned why other people love it, - Dog Shows - Ice skating - F1 racing - Quilting - Lace making - Tattoo artistry - Shakespeare's Julius Caesar - The Maya - Rice (I didn't dislike rice before, but now that I know how rice is made, my mind is blown about the amount of work that goes into every grain of rice) - Kendrick Lamar's halftime performance (I didn't dislike the performance. I thought it was fun! But I didn't truly appreciate it because I wasn't super knowledgeable about his music. But now I have researched the lyrics, and taken in some analysis of his show and my mind is blown) I could probably do research on every single halftime performer in the last 25 years and come out the other side of that research with a better appreciation for the work and brilliance that went into their performance. Any genre. Any performer. There's no cap, No ceiling on the loving or appreciating things. So if I have the choice to dislike something that clearly millions of people love and enjoy OR take a few minutes to learn why people love it, I would much rather have a slice of that knowledge. I almost always end up loving something (or at least appreciating it still isn't my cup of tea)- especially when I take the time to listen or talk to the people who love the thing. . . . . #kelsewhatelse #kendricklamar #superbowlhalftimeshow #midwesternmom

What "number" snow day is it for you? Also LISTEN. The game was HIS idea. Not mine. It was a good game too! Lasted for a solid 20 minutes. Which may as well be gold on snow day # 1439th . . . . #kansascitysnowstorm #kansascityinfluencer #kelsewhatelse #snowday #momoftoddlers #midwesternmom
