December 30th is National Bacon Day! Like many of these “national holidays,” it gives us an excuse to highlight some of our cuts in our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum. However, we do not have a cut of bacon, nor many foods. For today though, Howard letterpress printed a cut of the animal which bacon comes from. This small photo engraving of a pig was made in the 1960s and it is from the Stockton High School Print Shop Collection. This cut was not mounted on wood so Howard had to get creative to bring the cut to type high (0.918 of an inch) to print.
