When you’re struggling with fight-or-flight symptoms, leaving the house can feel impossible. I remember saying no a lot. Your home and your family become your safe space, and stepping out into the unknown—especially around people who might not understand symptoms brought on by panic attacks and anxiousness—can feel overwhelming and even embarrassing. On this account, I give you all the tools for your toolbox to help you get to the other side. We can never get rid of stress but if we can learn all the ways to maneuver through it, we can keep our nervous system and a healthy . Today I want to share with you the secret around cold exposure and how it has an incredible way of calming the body by activating your parasympathetic nervous system—the part that tells you, ‘It’s safe to relax.’ Here are a few ways to use cold no matter where you are to help: 1️⃣ Try a face plunge: Dip your face into a bowl of ice water for 10-15 seconds. (You can do this at home) 2️⃣ Run cold water from the faucet and splash it on your face or wet a cloth to place on your neck. (You can do this at a restaurant or friends house) 3️⃣ Grab some ice and hold it against the back of your neck or wrists for instant relief. (You can ask for this on an airplane) But what if you’re out and about and don’t have access to ice or cold water? 👉 Simply step outside into the cold weather. Let the crisp air touch your skin, take a few deep breaths, and let your body start to calm down. 1.	Inhale for 4 counts. 2.	Hold your breath for 4 counts. 3.	Exhale slowly for 6 counts. 4.	Repeat 5 times. Cold air + intentional breathing = a calmer, safer you. ❄️✨ Follow @overcomingfightorflight and save this for the next time you feel anxious or overwhelmed! If you are feeling anxious, go grab yourself a glass of water. Something as simple as gargling water can help calm your nervous system. It might sound strange, but there is real science around it. Everyone has a vagus nerve. It’s a nerve that acts like a superhighway in your body that connects your brain to most of your major organs, including your heart, lungs, and gut. It plays a crucial role in your “rest-and-digest” mode, helping your body feel safe, calm, and balanced. It also is responsible for the gut brain access- the communication from the brain to the gut and the gut back to the brain. Yes! They communicate back-and-forth throughout the day. When you’re feeling anxious, your vagus nerve might not be functioning as well as it should. This keeps your body stuck in “fight or flight” mode, making it harder to relax and think clearly. •	Gargling activates muscles in your throat that are connected to the vagus nerve. •	This stimulation sends calming signals to your brain, shifting your body out of panic mode and into relaxation mode. A healthy vagus nerve is important because it 💧 Helps regulate your heart rate and breathing. 💧 Lowers stress hormones like cortisol. 💧 Balances your mood and improves your resilience to stress. So, the next time you feel anxiety creeping in, head to the sink and gargle some water for 30 seconds. It’s quick, free, and surprisingly effective! 👉Follow @overcomingfightorflight and let me know if you have tried this hack before?
