Checking in on our smallest gator at the sanctuary, Tadpole! Tadpole is missing her tail, likely from a predator as a hatchling. Alligators rely on their tails for swimming, so without one life is very difficult in the wild and it’s very rare to see one survive to adulthood in the wild with this injury. Thankfully, tadpole has a great life here at the sanctuary! As this little gator grows by the month, a prosthetic tail would NOT make sense, you’d have to replace it for $6k every other month. Meet our newest gator, TrapJaw! Yesterday we were contacted by nuisance alligator trapper AJ about this gator with a snare wrapped so tightly around his top jaw that it started growing into his face! Luckily the initial photo looked much worse than it seems to be now, AJ was able to remove it fairly easily, and we will be treating it topically, but it does not look like it will need much medical care other than that! Feeding Akila the Nile crocodile, she was on her good behavior today and was nice and gentle! She decided to recall her training and do everything like how she’s supposed to! It’s funny to read comments, when she’s good I’ll have lots of people saying how she’s tame and like a pet, then she’s a little crazy another video and the comments will say how she’s lost all training and that it proves you can’t train them. She’s neither a pet or an untrainable beast; she’s an intelligent apex predator that chooses to do what she wants to do that day based on whatever she wants, not what a human wants, because she’s wild animal! Wild animals are absolutely trainable, anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant or a fool, but just as much of a fool as those who think wild predatory animals are pets. Feeding Akila the Nile crocodile, she was on her good behavior today and was nice and gentle! She decided to recall her training and do everything like how she’s supposed to! It’s funny to read comments, when she’s good I’ll have lots of people saying how she’s tame and like a pet, then she’s a little crazy another video and the comments will say how she’s lost all training and that it proves you can’t train them.
