A Clean Sweep 🧹 When the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, over 1 ton (!!) of confetti rains down on the revelers in New York City’s Times Square. The cleanup crew works quickly to clean up Times Square in just a matter of hours! A bit more of. Challenge this year because of the wet conditions - confetti was sticking to buildings and street lamps. We watched the clean up action for about an hour after the celebration, and the streets were almost completely cleaned by the time we left. 😱They work FAST. We get many questions about the confetti in Times Square, here’s some Fun Facts on the world famous event: 🎊Approximently 3,000 pounds of confetti is released at the celebration 🎊Times Square’s confetti is special as it holds people’s dreams! Included in the confetti drop are the thousands of wishes submitted at the New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall in Times Square (featured previously) 🎊No confetti cannons here! It takes the hands of up to 100 people to drop the confetti from the tops of buildings surrounding Times Square 🎊The confetti is made of recycled, biodegradable material 🎊All confetti is recycled after the event is over Happy New Year! @Times Square NYC #confetti #confettitest #timessquare #balldrop #newyearseve #newyorkcity #nyc #nyckids

HISTORIC NYC: The Abandoned City Hall Subway Station *Tickets go on sale this Wed for Members* Did you know that there is a secret subway station in NYC? For many decades it wasn’t possible to visit the abandoned station. Now, you can tour the station through exclusive tours made available ONLY to New York Transit Museum members. It’s the hottest ticket in NYC! And a unique opportunity to explore this New York landmark. NYC’s very 1st Subway ride left from the City Hall station in 1904. The breathtaking station was outfitted with elegant brass chandeliers, stunning skylights, and vaulted tile ceilings. It was considered the jewel of the transit system. Why is it no longer used? Built for the trains of 1904, the station could no longer accommodate the newer/larger trains in the system, and the distance of the gap surrounding the curve had become unsafe for passengers. It was decommissioned in 1945. While the station is no longer in service, the track is still active. It serves as a turnaround for the 6 line, but trains no longer stop at Old City Hall station. (Secret tip: if you stay on the 6 train after the last station you can peek through the windows at the station!). The tours begin above ground with the fascinating history of the development of City Hall and the subway system. Next, you head underground to explore the station. It’s a must for NYC history fans. Note: this is the hottest ticket in town and they sell FAST. WHERE: 📍Tour takes place in the old City Hall subway station. WHEN: ⏰Fall Tours go on sale January 15 2025 at 10AM sharp! TICKETS: 🎟️ONLY available to New York Transit Museum Members! Tickets cost $50 per person, and sell out quickly (they sell out within minutes!). GOOD TO KNOW: 📕Tours run rain or shine, and last apx 90 minutes. Children must be 10+ to attend the tour & be part of a family membership to the museum. *Not sponsored - I am a Museum Member* #nytransitmuseum #nychistory #cityhallsubwaystation #cityhall #secretnyc #thingstodonyc #newyorkcity #nyc #nyckids
