FOLLOW for more tips like this & see below for additional details โฌ๏ธ You gifted their first online device, now what? Thereโs a ton of device specific resources and of course Iโd recommend the basics like sharing location, setting up emergencies services, etc but I want to call out a few lesser known tips and why theyโre important: 1. Having a child specific account is key. Do not lie about their age because this is how you get access to specific control, block other features and the companies will prompt parent control suggestions as the child grows but all of these triggers are based on age. 2. Update every device on your account. Updates are important for security but it can also interfere with how parental controls work because the devices are linked on one account so if theyโre running outdated software things may not work smoothly. 3. Have conversations often, be on the platforms your kids are on and teach them how to be online. You can actually start their social media account before giving them access and only interact with the content you want them to see, this will teach the algorithm what to serve your child. You can also reset the algorithm at any time via the settings. And make sure your children know how to identify, report & block problematic content, plus they need to know how to behave as well. Have these conversations early & often.
