Diadectes, the Earth's first great plant-eaters šŸŒæ Diadectes arrived around the Late Carboniferous, Early Permian. Diadectes could attack plants at ground level and below. Things I did in December 2024: Started quasi-seriously lifting weights Got my first tattoo (itā€™s a life size Velociraptor claw!) Asked an underwear company for a sponsorship ā€˜cause I thought itā€™d be fun. Excited to see what January brings :) Iā€™m wearing the 6ā€ boxer briefs, essentials soft bra, and short sleeve t shirt by TomboyX, in the DinoByte print. #funfacts #dinosaurs #paleontology #mindblown #OOTD #butch @tomboyx

Happy New Year, everyone! As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming paleo-tourism season starting in late May, we are thrilled to share the exciting work we do here at In Stone Fossils. One of the most common questions we get asked is, "Do we get to keep it if we find something rare?" Our answer is simple: 99% of what you discover with us is not considered rare, and the 1% that might be classified as rare will be preserved for public retention, ensuring that the world can study and learn from it. This dedication to contributing to science is something most of our clients deeply understand and appreciate. Weā€™re often asked about the possibility of finding rare specimens, and we want to make it clear that if something truly monumental were to be discovered, it would already be in the hands of professionals long before you ever reached commercial quarries. In over 50 years of operation, no one has ever found a crocodile or a large turtle that they could keepā€”this idea is more of a marketing illusion. Having run a commercial quarry ourselves for many years, we know this well. Now, weā€™re excited to focus on the future of paleontology and collaborate with the scientific community. This year, weā€™ve made some significant strides, including providing specimens like a bat, a bird, and a salamander to the state of Wyoming for public retention. These contributions are a part of preserving the scientific record for future generations. One of our proudest moments this year was when a bird specimen was discovered by a tourist group. Their excitement knowing it would go into public retention, not private hands, was incredibly heartening. These are the kinds of experiences we cherish, and we are so grateful to have clients who understand the importance of their role in furthering paleontological discovery. If you're passionate about paleontology and want to be a part of this thrilling journey, come experience it firsthand! Book your next tour with us and contribute to the advancement of science. Letā€™s make history together! #experience #explore #exciting #driven #fun #greenriverformation #fossil #fyp #fossils #paleontology #paleontological #fossiltour #fossilhunting #science

The Dinosaurs went extinct around 66mya due to volcanic activity and an asteroid strike. But some, in the form of birds, survived. So why didnā€™t the birds become dominant predators and effectively bring back the dinosaurs? Well, in some cases, they kind of did. Letā€™s talk about it #Paleopedia #dino #dinosaur #dinotok #dinosaurtiktok #fossil #fossils #fossiltok #fossilhunting #paleo #paleotok #paleontology #paleontologytiktok #evolution #prehistoricplanet #prehistoric
If youā€™ve ever wondered what discovering an extraordinarily rare species looks like, here it is. Hadrodus was first discovered by just a single pre-maxilla in 1857. The next Hadrodus specimen we know of was found in Kansas, by Othniel Charles Marsh himself, in 1872. That specimen is just a pre-maxilla, splenials, and a few broken skull bits. It was then a WHOLE CENTURY later when the third Hadrodus was discovered, this time a partial skeleton in Alabama, described in 1970. In 1986, the next (and last) Hadrodus skeleton that we know of was discovered and described, again in Alabama. Thatā€™s it. The pre-maxilla I discovered in 2021 was already enough to warrant a paper, but now we might have more on our hands. Stay tuned for updates (if there is more in the ground šŸ¤žšŸ¤ž) and the associated research exploring Hadrodus to come in the future! . . . #paleontology #fossilhunting #fossils #fossil #hadrodus #palaeontology #geology
