With high numbers of pertussis cases on the rise, please please PLEASE keep an eye wide open for your children symptoms if they become sick... it all started as a normal cough that after 4 bottles of over the counter medicine (2 day &night Mucinex and 2 day & night delsym) kept on getting worse to the point of her coughing but also gasping for air because she could NOT breathe which is the scariest feeling a mother can feel/ experience. First trip to the ER the doctor brushed it off as a normal cold, if it wasn't because I point blank asked -So what about her not being able to breathe? - that he gave her steroids that night and we were sent home just for us to return because she continued to have those episodes; after I stood my ground and told them - IT ISN'T A NORMAL COUGH -they did testing on her and she tested positive for PERTUSSIS (the one thing they didn't think it could be, probably because she didn't have a fever at all). Please if you have children that are old enough to talk LISTEN to them, they know their bodies better than the doctors, you know your kids better than the doctors... the sooner they start treatment the better, infants and the elderly are most at risk.
