Knee arthritis or meniscus tears don’t have to rule your life!! 👊 - With issues like meniscus tears, arthritis, bursitis, etc., range of motion MUST be retained and worked on within the joint and surrounding structures 🦵 - It may seem counterintuitive, but I promise you, the more pain-free/tolerable range and supportive activation you give the knee, the better the knee will respond! 🙌 - And that’s where this move comes in 🤩 - This move focuses on joint mobility and flexibility at the hip and knee with stability at the ankle. This could reduce injuries and pain ☝🏽 One of the first questions I ask if someone is experiencing pain, stiffness or an injury is “What does your exercise/strengthening routine look like” 👀 This can tell a lot about why something might be going on ⚠️ Whether it’s:  - Lack of exercise/strengthening routine  - Too much repetition of the same movements  - Too much overall volume  - Not enough single leg exercises  These can all contribute ☝🏽 There’s good news though! ✅ There are tons of different ways to incorporate single leg strengthening into your training. It’s SO IMPORTANT as here are just a few activities that require single leg strength: - walking  - stairs - hill walking - running  If you have pain or difficulty with any of these- single leg strength asymmetries or lack of single leg strength could be why 😞 Here are just 3️⃣ examples but there are many others. It’s possible!! ✅ Going down the stairs requires CONTROL.  Your leg muscles need to be able to support bodyweight as you go down the stairs. This comes from strength in the right areas 👏🏼 Without the appropriate strength and control- you may find yourself going down one at a time, feeling uncontrolled or unsteady and even experience pain ☝🏽 This is one of my FAVORITES to start practicing the strength for the stairs ✨ Sit down SLOWLY. Exercise Explained: The Kettlebell Creeper 🟢A fantastic strength exercise that builds resiliency of your foot and ankle and may improve your running performance. ⚪️It mainly targets the soleus muscle, which is the main load-bearing muscle of the lower leg during long distance running. Hip pain getting in/out of the car? 😣 In order to get in and out of most cars, you have to lift your knees so you can clear your feet ☝🏽 This marching type motion can be aggravating to the hip and groin region if there isn’t enough strength there 👀 The key, though, in strengthening is not to increase pain and this simple exercise can offer a great way to strengthen the muscles in a nice way ✅ Use 50% effort as you bring your heel up and press your Pam down. The goal is to simply get a muscle contraction and hold it for 3-5 seconds 👏🏼 Relax and repeat up to 5-10 times each side.  ⚠️ Modify by reducing the pressure, range of motion and/or repetitions depending on what feels good. Struggling with stiff knees? 🦵  Mobility is the key to moving freely and staying active, and this simple exercise is a game-changer ✅ When you practice bending and straightening your knee, you’re not just improving joint mobility—you’re also engaging critical muscles: ✅ Bending: Your hamstrings (back of thighs) work to gently bend the knee, while your calves provide stability. 🙌🏼 Straightening: Your quadriceps (thighs) activate to extend the knee, and holding an isometric contraction strengthens the joint stabilizers. Adding 3 second holds at the end of each movement helps strengthen these muscles without putting stress on the joint, making it perfect for those with arthritis or knee discomfort. 👉 The goal to aim for is 5-10 reps each side ✨ Consistency is the key to unlocking better mobility and less pain. ⚠️ Modify as needed by reducing the range of motion or repetitions. How to stop pain when walking 🙌🏼 One trick that I remind myself of all the time is to take smaller and quicker steps ⏩️ You might be surprised at how different it feels ☝🏽 Especially when walking fast or walking with someone that has long legs, many people tend to naturally increase their step length but that can make hip and knee pain worse ❌ Instead, shorter and quicker steps can increase pace and speed without more stress ✅ ⚠️ Warning: this does NOT mean shuffling your feet. Make sure you are still picking up your foot with each step to avoid tripping and falling ⚠️ Working on strength and balance is still very important to improve walking tolerance but this too can be a great start.
