Want your poinsettias to last longer as cut flowers? Here's a little trick my mother-in-law taught me when I first married Tommy! 💚 They used to grow thousands of poinsettias every year! 1. Fill a vase with water and evergreens cut from your yard. I love to use cedar, but you can use any evergreens! Skip the evergreens if you are in a hurry! 2. Cut a few stems off of your poinsettias, and before placing them in water, carefully sear the cut end of the stem with a lighter to seal it and stop the sap from clogging the stem. This simple step extends the vase life of the poinsettia. 3. This will last for one or two weeks and replace the water if needed once a week. Pro-tip * I think the red poinsettias last longer than the white poinsettias as cut flowers but I just love the white and green look this time of year! And who knew Walmart would deliver them straight to your back door? I had not a clue....so if you are in a pinch and need to make a fast centerpiece here you go!
