I want to tread carefully here, because anything relating to postpartum bodies and recovery can be really complex and emotional 🤍 Pregnancy changes your body in profound ways. Some changes are permanent. Even just one week in, my uterus has shrunk quickly (can take 6 weeks to return back to normal)- I want to be transparent about this because this message is often missed in postpartum recovery. Theres a lot of things in our control in pregnancy. BUT there’s also so much beyond our control during pregnancy and recovery, and it’s heartbreaking how these factors are often weaponized against women, especially regarding how quickly our bodies change after birth. Yes, staying active during pregnancy helps with recovery - it takes incredible dedication! (And for those who couldn’t – your journey is valid. I see you🤍) But it’s not the whole truth. Genetic factors like uterus shrinkage speed and oxytocin receptor counts play a huge role in early recovery as well as unexpected traumatic births. These are things we simply can’t control. Recovery speed doesn’t determine anyone’s worth or strength. Every body has its own timeline, and every single one is worthy of celebration. You did that!!! 👏🏼👏🏼 Let’s focus on what’s in our control while being gentle with what isn’t. Holding onto factors beyond our control doesn't serve us - it only takes away from celebrating the incredible achievement of bringing life into this world. No matter how your recovery is progressing, you are incredible.
