Can you relate?? Proper nutrition is more important during pregnancy than EVER as nutrient intake impacts the developing baby. Yet, most women aren’t taught how to properly nourish themselves during this critical time. As a result, many pregnant women spiral into google searches where they receive an enormous amount of (often conflicting) information that can be left feeling overwhelmed, confused, anxious, and even fearful of eating certain foods. Not to worry, I’m here to guide you through a happy and healthy pregnancy. I’m Mel, a registered dietitian with a Master of Science degree in Nutrition from Columbia University. Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals are substances that interfere with the normal function of your body’s hormones. During the prenatal time, the baby is the particularly vulnerable to exposure to EDCs since his or her organs are forming. Moreover, certain EDCs have been found to cross the placenta and come in contact with the fetus. You can take certain precautions during pregnancy to limit exposure to EDCs. See below some swaps you can reduce your everyday exposure: * Replace non-stick cookware with glass, stainless steel, or cast iron cookware * Use pyrex or metal tupperware instead of plastic * Get a reusable metal water bottle instead of using disposable, plastic water bottles * Make coffee at home instead of drinking from to-go cups (which are lined with plastic!) * Opt for emailed receipts instead of paper receipts * Buy organic when possible EDCs are one of the many topics that I cover in the Nourished Pregnancy Guide.
