When I started following Renee Landers over at @reneefitat70 a while back I knew she would blow up on social media. I asked to interview her for @vivafifty, and we had a blast chatting. The video podcast has yet to be released, but in the meantime, Renee and I were able to meet in person in Tampa, an hour north of where I live and hopefully it’s the first of many meet-ups! Let me tell you she is even more beautiful and energetic in person, and that’s saying a LOT. She’s one of the women who let me know that at 61 I am just getting started. Heck, She had lumbar fusion surgery at 60 and didn’t do her first bodybuilding show until she was 69!

A memorable moment of 2024 was modeling for a college class of photography students taught by my friend, @selinaroman. It might seem like a small event in the grand scheme of things, but I left the experience feeling a deep sense of satisfaction and hope for the younger generation. These talented young women directed me—telling me how to pose, move, and express myself. I didn’t feel they were limited by preconceived notions of what 61 “should” look like. They embraced the possibilities. It also felt empowering to follow their guidance without hesitation, never needing to say, “Oh, I can’t do that.” In that moment, our ages didn’t matter. What truly mattered was the energy in the room—an energy that was vibrant, inspiring, and uplifting. Before launching my website, @VivaFifty, 11 years ago, I was already a seasoned writer, author, blogger, translator, and editor—essentially, someone whose work always revolved around words. For over four decades, I’ve worked diligently as a freelancer or contractor, building a career on my terms. That dedication shaped the work ethic I bring to managing my online presence as a business. Whether you call it a communications business, a publishing business, or something else, the fact is, I approach my work with intention and professionalism. Although my work spans national and international collaborations, being recognized locally felt wonderful. It was also a delight to meet other incredible individuals (mostly women, as someone pointed out) over 45 doing amazing things right here in Sarasota, Florida, where I live. So before I met @Reneefitat70 in person, we chatted online for a video podcast which is finally edited and will soon be live. I am so excited about that. I was inspired all over by Renee - a 72-year old bodybuilder with her pro card - as I listened to it again. She and I have so many things in common, including that our energy and way of life often does not match most of our peers. I definitely should have said 30-somethings with kids as fewer women are having kids in their 20s but the concept is that I don’t make friends based on age and neither does she! My eldest daughter is 23 and one of her best friends is 69. This is the beauty of friendships based on common interests and energy.
