When the news of the New Orleans terrorist attack was announced, I am confident millions of Black, Jewish, Muslim and Indian citizens prayed that the assailant was not “one of them.” Racial, religious and ethnic minorities have historically been judged (and blamed) as a homogenous group. When an assailant is white (as in Columbine, the Las Vegas massacre, the Oklahoma City bombing) – he’s just a “bad apple.” When the assailant is Black, Arab, Muslim or otherwise, the blame is assigned to the entire group. There is no doubt the New Orleans attack will have ripple effects on Muslims and people of Indian descent who were not, and would never be, involved in such an attack. #dei #neworleansattack #raceinamerica #whiteprivilege
