Yes, these are words! Early words, but words nonetheless! Word "approximations" count, as long as they are: 1. Consistent 2. Meaningful 3. Independent "Articulated perfectly" is NOT part of the criteria. Heck, forget perfect--early words often don't even sound close! If you're concerned that your 12-18 month old isn't saying many or any words, try fine-tuning your ear a bit with these tips: 🌱Look for sounds that seem to be repeated often in a certain context. 🌱Use exaggerated "parentese" and see if your child mimics your intonation while saying some sounds (if they do, they're likely trying to imitate your word, too!) 🌱Encourage, model, and repeat, repeat, repeat!
