The Senate confirmation hearing for Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary, is now underway. The Senate Armed Services Committee is asking the former Fox News host and U.S. Army veteran about his experience and vision for the role in a hearing that is expected to last until late afternoon. Hegseth is likely to face questions about allegations related to his personal and professional conduct, including a 2017 sexual assault allegation. Hegseth has said the interaction was consensual and that he paid his accuser an undisclosed sum as part of a settlement agreement to “protect my family” and “protect my job.” The local district attorney declined to file charges, saying there was no “proof beyond a reasonable doubt” for charges. Hegseth is “not qualified to run the organization,” Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), veteran and member of the Senate Armed Services and Commerce Committee, believes. “He’s never run anything bigger than a 40-man platoon,” she tells The ReidOut. ⚡WATCH MORE: MSNBC.com/Joy
