Frustrated because you’re constantly prompting your child to finish their meal so you can move onto the next thing? Let’s reevaluate what “finishing the meal” actually means. TLDR: your child may not be hungry for the amount of food you think they should eat The long-term goal is that your child will eat because their body is telling them it’s hungry and they will stop when their body tells them they don’t need any more food. There are definitely some kids that are exceptions to this, but for the most part, we should not be deciding how much is enough at each meal or snack. It changes from meal to meal and day to day. For all of us, but especially toddlers! Usually, if we change our approach for a few days and let our child decide when they have had enough while maintaining a schedule that is predictable and consistent, we will see that we can trust their bodies to eat what they need when they need it. Has this worked for your family?
