We rescued Baby when our state local authorities failed to catch her when she broke into someone else's property. She was pretty much a feral horse in 2019. By late 2020 and early 2021 we had slowly gotten her to weight and gained her trust. Unfortunately by the time we got our vet out to vaccinate her, we had a West Nile outbreak in our state and a week after getting her vaccinated against west Nile she was already beginning to go paralyzed. The vet and I had come to the same conclusion that she was so young and the "we can put her on steroids, etc." would not give her the best quality of life because she would be in pain and there was just so much unknown. what's worse is that we didn't get her rabies vaccination, not thinking it was necessary, and because of wn being neurological, our vet was legally obligated to take her head to test her brain for rabies despite being positive it was wn. it was a heartbreaking day, but seeing how she went from not letting us near her to being so comfortable in a vulnerable position with us meant the world to us and we will forever take what we learned from her situation to future horses ❤️
