#ScarcityTrauma explores the psychological effects of growing up with limited resources, leading to anxiety, fear of deprivation, and a mindset shaped by insecurity, impacting relationships, decisions, and overall well-being.
Scarcity trauma and poverty trauma stemming from early experiences of lacking basic needs, can profoundly impact how people show up in their lives. 😢 Some individuals become hyper-focused on saving, accumulating possessions, or even hoarding as a way to cope with the fear of scarcity. 💵 Others may display patterns of overworking or overachieving, driven by an intense desire to avoid returning to a state of lack. 🙁 Scarcity trauma can also lead to difficulties in setting boundaries around resources or finances, as individuals may feel compelled to give excessively to others, fearing abandonment if they don't. 💰 Disclaimer: You may want to consider your individual mental health needs with a licensed medical professional. Navigating holiday parties can be a unique challenge, especially if you've experienced scarcity trauma. 🎄✨ The abundance of festive gatherings often amplifies feelings of scarcity, stirring up memories of times when resources were limited. These emotions might manifest as anxiety, hesitancy to indulge, or difficulty in fully enjoying the festivities. It's essential to acknowledge these feelings and practice self-compassion during the holiday season. Remember, your worth is not determined by material abundance, and it's okay to prioritize your emotional well-being. 🌟💙 Take moments to breathe, connect with loved ones, and embrace the joyous spirit of the season. You're not alone in navigating the complexities of holiday gatherings, and your feelings are valid. 💖 #scarcitytrauma #holidayseason #selfcompassion #holidayparties #scarcitymindset #povertytrauma *page is not providing or replacing your care* #creatorsearchinsights #tiktokpartner
When I coined the term “Scarcity Trauma” I was conducting a research study on PTSD in my Midtown Manhattan laboratory. I realized that many therapists dont talk about scarcity and that this is because they dont come from scarcity and never lacked resources. After I started using the term the concept went viral, soon famous therapists were reaching out to thank me for talking about a topic they had never addressed. Like many other Millennials, I graduated with hundreds of thousands in student loan debt. 💵 This triggered my fears related to scarcity trauma and contributed to many poor choices in life. I chose paths, not because they fulfilled me, but because I was afraid to take risks and to lose it all.❤️‍🩹 I used to be so ashamed of where I came from because most of my peers had more resources. 😔 Now, I am so proud that I have overcome scarcity trauma and I speak openly about my past so that others can shed their shame and speak their truth. 🫂 I am fortunate that I can now give back to my community and that I am an advocate for health equity. 👩🏽‍⚕️ What’s your scarcity trauma story and how has it shaped your path? 📲👇🏽 #scarcitytrauma #scarcitymindset #anhedonia #peoplepleaser #highfunctioningaf #tiktokpartner *page is not replacing or providing your care* #creatorsearchinsights
Scarcity Trauma can feel overwhelming. 🙃 This happens when you or your parents have a personal history of limited resources. 💸 Some people hoard or pinch pennies and others spend recklessly. 🪙 It may be difficult to give away or get rid of things that you don’t need or that create clutter and distress, but doing this over time may lead to healing and progress.❤️‍🩹
When I started to use the term, “Scarcity Trauma” for my skits I started to hear stories of people having competitive feelings around scarcity, so I started using the term “Scarcity Envy”. 💸 Have you ever met someone who was so ashamed of their privilege that they actually envied your history of scarcity?🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 Scarcity can bring out a lot of complex feelings because money and economic disparities make people have awkward feelings. Money is a taboo topic for many people. 👀💰 Many people with an unstable sense of self want to claim scarcity in order to make themselves appear more interesting, complex, or more dynamic.🧐 *This page is not meant to replace current care* #scarcitytrauma #scarcityenvy #whofides #creatorsearchinsights #povertytrauma
Did you ever wonder why you overspend?🤔 I realized that my excessive holiday spending was related to my past scarcity trauma can you relate 🤦🏾‍♀️💸🎄🎅🏾🎁 Some people with past scarcity trauma grew up with little so abundance is unfamiliar and they spend to overcompensate for having little in the past. 🎁💸🎄 They may feel uncomfortable being “comfortable” so they spend to get back to a place where they have little. 🤔 Others pinch Pennies and save and hoard because of past trauma because they don’t ever want to be in a position of low resources ever again. It may be difficult to give away or get rid of things that you don’t need or that create clutter and distress, but doing this over time may lead to healing and progress.❤️‍🩹 It’s important to examine spending habits in order to heal.
