Fire crews responded to the intersection of Route 72 and 59 in South Barrington around 9:42 a.m. and found two of the cars with heavy damage, according to the East Dundee & Countryside Fire Protection District. ISP said the trooper was enroute to assist the Cook County Sheriff's Office with traffic control at the scene of another crash. The ISP squad car activated its emergency lights and sirens as it drove through the intersection and was hit, according to the ISP. The ISP trooper was taken to Saint Alexis Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with non-life-threatening injuries. Two patients from other cars were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin with non-life-threatening injuries. ISP is investigating the crash.
