Growing up around car events, I became accustomed to the predominant guy culture. I was surprised—and thrilled—when I overheard a woman my age with colorful green hair excitedly talking about “making it to 300 mph.” Intrigued, I introduced myself and she graciously allowed me to start filming her rookie driving passes in the Iron Dinosaur with nothing more than my iPhone. The event spans 10 days, and as the story unfolded, a cinematographer from New York eventually joined me on the salt. What started as a spontaneous encounter turned into the serendipitous and experimental journey that became this film! ******** Rookie driver Landspeed Liz takes on the chance of a lifetime to pilot the Iron Dinosaur—a 300 mph race car—on Utah's unforgiving Bonneville Salt Flats, known as ‘the Great White Cathedral.’ With a team gripped by ‘salt fever,’ an unreasonable passion for racing on the hostile flats, Liz faces down a field that has often underestimated her. But to have a whole group of artists come together to capture one of your life biggest achievements in a technicolor #documentaryfilm is just breathtaking. This all began out of a single moment at the Nugget car show when Allison Swank decided that I was worth talking to and crossed paths. She was so cool and totally didn’t lead on to the fact that she is an absolutely incredible Director, she was just new to the salt and wanted to ask some questions. She and fellow cinematographer Lorenzo, as well as her family, David, Theresa and sister Beth, braved the heat and followed every step of the way Sharing the experience with them made it so exciting!
