To say i have enjoyed being the first artist in residence at UTSA is an understatement!! 2nd year and every year, I get to experience the most intelligent gifted students! Here is a bit of what has gone on! From students coming in to work on their own music in my studio as producers and musicians, to my hiring them as studio musicians for my artists. I helped release 2 artists' music to streaming platforms. Michael Acevedo, director of UTSA MARIACHI LOS PAISANOS and student L.J. performed on my SHELLSHOCK RECORDS 3 artist EL GALLO DEZ album as well as the full group on my artist Angel Miranda's (utsa alumni) upcoming album. We also hosted the incredible John Leguizamo who came to interview me for his series set to release this year, "Leguizamo does America." I was able to give a master class on tejano Music for the series and talk about my journey in tejano music. Performed with the String Band at TMEA a piece student Alexa composed to S.O.S.A. and Mariachi Los Paisanos performing my song "Ganas de besarte " during Hispanic Heritage Month! I also got to sit in once again for the Selena Class, Audio tech, and world music classes. Also, I got to speak about the hard knocks and percs of the music industry for "introduction to the music industry." I also have one of my students that is a film major running audio for an upcoming series, "King of the South," and now his 2nd film, "Alamo City Zombie." I also got to do 2 amazing plaiticas on "women of tejano" and to speak on my career. Bringing students from classrooms into the world they aspire to be in! Numerous students reach out to me for advice, and mentoring is dear to my heart. These students inspire me!! Not to mention the AMAZING professors, directors, and faculty that have welcomed me with open arms!! I am sooooo grateful to Dean Glenn Martinez for this opportunity. I pray I continue to stay on!
