Backward wiggles is one of the easiest ways to skate backwards! 1. Start near a wall 2. Stand up tall, arms in front/out to the side, bend your knees slightly 3. Twist your hip + bend your knees to skate backwards Make sure to look behind you if you are skating backwards with the flow of traffic at open skate/a busy rink Detailed tutorial on my YT channel #figureskating #beginner #IceSkating #firsttimeskating #beginnericeskater #skatingtutorials #LearnOnTikTok #mysport #howtoskatebackwards
How to do a sit spin in figure skating!⛸️❄️ this is one of the three basics spin positions you will learn as a skater. A lot of beginners struggle with this spin because it can be a bit tricky when you first start. If your two foot or one foot spin can barely get any revs or momentum you will absolutely struggle with your sit spin. Make sure to strengthen the basics before working on your sit. The second thing that a lot of skaters overlook, including myself when I first started working on my sit spin is the fact that you need to push yourself out of your comfort zone to go lower. You can definitely reach the 90° position! You just need to force yourself to embrace falling #fi#figureskatingu#tutorialk#skatingtutorialse#beginnerskatere#beginnericeskateri#sitspind#adultskater
Replying to @Kelly Craig Using your arms as a skater is super important and here is why! You SHOULD use your arms to help you safely fall in skating. Obviously most falls are not planned and can catch you by surprise. It is very important to make sure you understand the best and safest way to catch yourself to avoid injuries as much as possible. As someone that has actually gone through the proper training process I am to tell you that you should use your arms to help assist you when falling. Purposely avoiding using your arms or putting hands in your pockets will put you at a much higher risk for injuries. Especially head injuries! Using your arms is essential for balance, jumping, spinning, and even falling. You do want to avoid locking your elbows or trying to catch yourself with the palms of your hands. That can lead to injury or a lasting uncomfortable pain. If you are worried about wrist injuries you can purchase special skating gloves or even wrist guards #figureskatingtiktok #iceskatingtiktok #didyouknow #learntoskate #iceskatingbeginner #skatingtutorials
Replying to @Harpsalot How land your first axel! I’m always open to sharing axel tips + tricks because I struggled with this jump for a longtime and want to help other skaters avoid the mistakes I made when I first started this jump. I learned this jump from scratch as an adult so I completely understand how frustrating and intimidating this jump can be. The waltz jump + back spin is the BEST way to get comfortable with landing your first axel! 1. Curve your waltz jump takeoff more than you think you should. The axel does rotate a little bit on the ice before taking off. 2. Avoid a flat takeofff edge 3. Avoid curving a full turn on the ice before taking off (if you followed those arrows and continued to pivot on the ice a full turn it would be cheated) 4. Over rotate the landing of your waltz jump into the back spin. Get comfortable with staying in the air longer #singleaxel #figureskatingjumps #icefigureskating #iceskater #adultskater #skatingtutorials
