Snowmen took the place of sandcastles on an Alabama beach, as snow was still on the ground two days after a historic winter storm hit the southern part of the state. On Thursday, January 23, the City of Orange Beach posted a video on X showing a snowman sitting right by the water’s edge, with snow still covering the beach behind him. The snowman was made with seashells for eyes and driftwood for arms. Down the beach, a person can be seen making another small snowman while other people walk by them. “We are flying yellow flags in Orange Beach today - Thursday, January 23rd,” the city wrote on X. “Yellow flags represent Medium Hazard with Moderate Surf and Currents.” Orange Beach got six and a half inches of snow in Tuesday’s snowstorm, according to a local news report. On Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a cold weather advisory for Orange Beach and other areas of Alabama and Florida, with wind chills expected to be as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday night into Friday.
