We've got a #pupdate on Saint!⁠ ⁠ Saint was recently found collapsed in the lane divider of a busy street in #Compton, CA. She had two deep stab wounds and was struggling to breathe. Her body bore telltale signs of overbreeding, along with old scars and many fresh injuries. Her rescuer rushed her to the emergency vet but was unable to afford the nearly $15,000 cost of her care. Thankfully, she was transferred to a rescue and has been in the hospital ever since. In addition to the deep stab wounds, Saint's legs had been mangled, her paw pads on one foot flayed down to the bone. When we first shared her story, her vet bills had already surpassed $11,000.⁠ ⁠ After 10 days of emergency hospitalization, Saint was finally stable enough to be discharged! However, after leaving the hospital, Saint was still going to need assistance in standing/walking, very rigorous physical therapy, range of motion exercises, and constant care that just wouldn’t have been possible at our facility. ⁠ ⁠ Thankfully, an incredible woman who works remotely for the same vet where Saint had been hospitalized offered to open her home to Saint and become her medical foster. Suspected Bait Dog Covered In BLUE DYE Surrendered To Local Shelter With Life-Threatening Injuries... When Bubba the #Bulldog came through their doors, shelter staff could hardly believe their eyes. This poor boy's fur was stained with dark blue dye, offset by the pink of the debilitating open wound on his leg. Bubba's wound appeared to be infected and at least a few days old. The person who brought him in claimed that this little dog had just wandered into his yard. However, we suspect that the person who surrendered Bubba was likely his owner. At best, this person might have tried to treat the wound himself without bringing Bubba to the vet, or maybe he was too ashamed to admit that the injuries happened on his watch. At worst, Bubba was used as a bait dog. Bait dogs are used by dogfighters as living training dummies for fighting dogs. Oftentimes marked with paint or dye, bait dogs are usually unable to fight back, posing no risk of injury to the fighting dogs. It is truly barbaric. Given the dye on his fur and the multitude of wounds that cover his body, it isn't an outlandish assumption. Bubba was already at risk of developing sepsis, a deadly blood infection, by the time he entered the shelter. However, the shelter had no funds for Bubba's emergency care, so we immediately took him in and got him to our vet. His wounds were quickly cleaned and bandaged, and he is receiving around-the-clock care, but unfortunately, the situation gets a bit more complicated. As if these urgent medical needs weren't enough, poor Bubba is also battling several health issues related to bad breeding and prolonged neglect. He has arthritis, a misaligned jaw, and an infected canine tooth. His ears are cauliflowered from untreated infection. We finally have an update on little Stella, but it isn't all the good news we were hoping for. The product of negligent breeding, Stella was found stumbling through the streets of Fort Lauderdale, FL a few weeks ago. She was only 11 weeks old and had clearly been dumped by a breeder. She was suffering from heartbreaking neurological symptoms, causing her to lose her balance and tumble over her own feet. After taking her in, the team at I Heart Animal Rescue rushed Stella to the vet, where she was started on a regimen of medications, including steroids and antibiotics. The next steps for Stella were to undergo an MRI and evaluation with a neurologist to determine whether she had suffered any trauma to her brain. However, just last week, Stella had to be rushed to the ER by her caretakers. She was struggling to breathe and could barely keep her eyes open. She was placed on oxygen support, and diagnostic tests revealed that Stella's heart was enlarged. Stella was hospitalized over the weekend, and an EKG test confirmed her heart condition. Unfortunately, Stella now had to wait until her next appointment for a full treatment plan from her specialists. The day after being admitted to the hospital, Stella was diagnosed with Systemic Hypertension, meaning her heart was working harder than it should be to pump blood to her organs. She was quickly transferred to a cardiologist for more specialized care. Stella's fragile health continues to demand intensive medical intervention, and the costs of these treatments are mounting rapidly. She is fighting so hard, and everyone is committed to helping her heal, but we can't do this alone.
