It’s uncommon but it DOES happen! || ‼️The MAJORITY of guinea pigs thrive in herd and with a buddy. Always evaluate ALL of your options and speak with your veterinarian about potential aggression in your pets. ‼️ || This is Luke! Luke is an aggressive Guinea pig. He used to be bonded with a baby Guinea pig, however when he got older their bond broke. Luke harmed everest multiple times. His old owner also told me luke did this before and can never hold a bond. He easily hurts other Guinea pigs and has always been the aggressor. I seen that with every bonding I did with him. When Luke and Everests bond broke, they became bar buddies. It was okay at first but after a while I noticed the presence of another Guinea pig caused him to be stressed. He’s a very territorial pig. Because of the stress, his appetite and behavior changed. Luke is a healthy Guinea pig and we narrowed his symptoms down to being unhappy with the other Guinea pigs in his vicinity. After Luke was isolated his behavior and appetite completely changed, it went back to normal. He’s still gaining his weight back but I can tell he is a lot happier. I've done everything I can for Luke, this was the final option. My bondings are done PROPERLY (to a tea) and he's been through multiple of them. They have more than enough cage space and they're setup properly. I also make changes as needed. So yes of course Guinea pigs are social animals, and if they’re aggressive usually a bar buddy is the solution. This just didn’t work for Luke. It’s uncommon but it DOES happen. Like humans, EVERY Guinea pig is different. They have individual personalities and we can’t expect them to all be the same. (That is extremely unrealistic) If you ever see someone with a solo pig, ask them about it! Be kind and stay open, don’t judge them based off of what you see on social media. You can't always blame the owner because it's something you "don't believe" or haven’t experienced first hand. I'm not going to risk the health and lives of my guinea pigs or intentionally stress them out because they have a different personality.
