It’s with a heavy heart that I share a setback in my efforts to advance Sean’s Law. This proposed legislation, is meant to provide essential mental health and financial support for first responders, heroes who face unimaginable trauma every day. The goal is to create a fund to offset the costs associated with seeking mental health treatment and taking the required time off work that aren't fully covered by insurance and other PTO and FMLA type benefits. I’ve been working closely with my state representatives, pouring my heart into this initiative to honor Sean’s, who died by suicide from PTSD as a first response, legacy and help ensure no other first responder feels abandoned in their time of need. Recently, I was told we won’t be able to move forward. The reason? New policies and priorities under the current administration have created barriers to the funding and support needed to make this law a reality. I am deeply disappointed. Disappointed that those who risk everything for us are being sidelined. Disappointed that decisions being made at the highest levels of government are having unintended consequences that hurt the very people we should be lifting up. First responders deserve better. They deserve a government that stands with them, not one that unintentionally leaves them behind. This open letter to former President Donald J. Trump is my plea for leadership, compassion, and action. I still believe we can make Sean’s Law a reality, but we need bold steps to overcome the obstacles in our path. Please read, share, and help amplify this message. Together, we can make a difference for the people who dedicate their lives to protecting us.
