If you’ve ever felt like you don’t belong, or like you’re an ‘alien’, a nerd, or a weirdo … I’ve got someone I’d like you to meet: This is my mom, Gayle. She is the most unique person I’ve ever met. She has always said she felt like an “alien” in this world. She has been a trailblazer for women in engineering and has amassed 27 finalized patents (and 25 more applications) on complex ultra-nerdy facets of technology that are beyond the comprehension of most ‘regular people’. 😆 My whole life I’ve watched people assume the worst about her, underestimate her, or treat her poorly because she is different. Because I firmly believe weirdos and nerds are the best kinds of people, I’ve spent the last two years telling her story here on social media. 🥰 That’s why it meant so much to me this year when her extraordinary life story was shared on CBS News. (Link to the full 8 minute story in the bio!) A few fun Gayle facts: She designed computer chips and even has one named the “Gayle chip” after her 🤓💻 She was one of the first female chief radio engineers and broadcast a live Grateful Dead concert in the 1970s 😱🎶 She loves her jeans and tee shirts so much she turned down a job at IBM in the early 70’s because at the time they required women to wear dresses to work 😂👖 Most of her wardrobe is comprised of thrifted items she tie dyed herself 🌈 And now she spends her retirement from her impressive career, performing random acts of kindness for strangers every day. 🥹 So … for those of you who often feel alien, like me, and like my mom - you are welcome to join me and the rest of us Gayleians here on Planet Gayle! We have cookies! 🍪 👽🛸 @David Begnaud @CBS Mornings
