#stitch with @antigonabytyqi When it comes to toddlers who are still not sleeping through the night, I usually ask parents how they might be unintentionally reinforcing those wake ups. With toddlers, gentle sleep training is more about everything you do leading up to sleep like preparing them mentally, setting up systems, acting things out, giving them choices, etc, than what you do when you’re actually putting them to sleep (although that’s important as well). Toddlers want their parents to be in charge because that actually makes them feel more secure and safe even though they will continually test boundaries. You can empower them with small choices like which pajamas do you want, which water bottle, book, etc. but going to bed is something they don’t have a choice on. Toddlers who wake all night are not getting the highest quality sleep which will affect mood and behavior, so helping them learn to sleep independently is so important to their development and especially a parents’ mental health (which ultimately has a huge effect on the child).
