I think it’s common and natural to think that if our tics are hurting us whether from the tics themselves or because we were already in pain to begin with, that our brains/bodies wouldn’t make us do it anymore. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. For a lot of people, myself included, the pain points trigger MORE tics in those areas. It’s as if my body reads those signals and thinks I want or need to do it more. For example, after having a dental procedure today, any upon body tics (shoulders, neck, jaw, head) have been triggered more and even though I’m already in pain, it won’t stop the tics from coming. It’s an unfortunate truth and just goes to show even more that the more we don’t want tic, the more they can happen. . . .
