Long time no see TikTok 🥹 today’s topic: Functional Training A good resistance training program SHOULD include exercises that focus on movements such as squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling, & rotating, with an emphasis on including unilateral work. Period. These movement patterns are the basis of almost every athletic and functional movement in life, hence why the title “Functional Training” & the increasing trend behind it has confused me. It’s always been a constant in the gym. Many people are drawn to functional training because it emphasizes proper mechanics, can help reduce pain and dysfunction, & improves the way your body moves overall, which is GREAT. My main concern is more so influencers or scam artists who showboat it as something completely groundbreaking as a means to have you buy their 30 day program or attempt moves that are maybe ✨not so functional✨ As long as you’re engaging multiple muscle groups & training in all the planes of movement, there is a 99.9% chance that you’ll be enhancing your overall strength, stability, & coordination, thus making daily actions easier to withstand and reducing your risk of injury.
