Almost all of the old growth redwood forest has been logged. Only 4% remains in Northern California. Where I am now in Sonoma county only 2% of the old growth redwoods are left standing after colonization. This area was literally called stump town usa. Protecting the mature and old growth forests in North America should be a number 1 priority. Even to this day thousands of acres of old growth are slated to be logged for profit. Today we are hiking in a second growth redwood forest that has been clear cut logged at least 3 times. Sadly almost all of the forests you’ll see in Sonoma county are second growth. The tree stumps tell the story for Mother Nature if you just look. Some of these coastal redwood trees were over 2 thousand years old when they were logged to build cities like San Francisco during the gold rush. One of the coolest trees I’ve ever seen in my life is a redwood here that was logged many times. It’s a amazing example of how resilient coastal redwood trees are , even after being logged , burning in a fire , and years of drought. This redwood is alive and thriving while being a nurse stump. These trees are amazing. #oldgrowthforest #logging #redwoods #wildfire #tree #stump #secondgrowth #bigtree #redwoodforest #giant #oldgrowth #redwood #treestump #mushrooms #trees #forestfire #treeroots #water #endangeredspecies #salmon #california #sonomacounty #native #forest #eco #plantlover #cali #indigenous #plant #botany #nativeplants #nativeplanttok #nativehabitatproject #treelife

Eucalyptus trees are invasive in California and a sign of the colonization of native land. These trees were only planted after most of the native old growth redwoods and oak trees were already logged. They were seen as a cash crop. And now these trees are crashing biodiversity in a state known as a global biodiversity hotspot. Only 1% of the old growth forest remains in Sonoma county, two groves are left. where this human planted invasive forest is only one old growth redwood tree remains. Eucalyptus has extremely shallow roots and blow over easy in winter storms. Native wildlife does not benefit from these trees and eucalyptus is the biggest wildfire threat in the state of California. When you plant eucalyptus like Jack London you are blatantly planting one of the worst invasive plants in the world. Stop invasives plant native. #california #invasivespecies #eucalyptus #trees #fire #oldgrowthforest #logging #redwoods #redwood #forest #invasive #plantsoftiktok #invasiveplants #eucalyptusshower #treeroots #treestump #colonization #nature #giant #redwoodforest #sonoma #sonomacounty #native #plantlover #eco #climateaction #Sustainability #habitat #restoration #nativeplants #nativeplanttok #nativehabitatproject #cali #landback #nativetiktok
I love chilling with the tallest trees in the world in one of the last intact old growth redwood forests left in Mendocino County California. Protecting mature and old growth forests should be a number 1 priority globally, not just in California. Old growth trees take generations to return, and monoculture second growth lumber forests are factory farms forestry style that always make wildfires worse. Redwood trees are the tallest trees in the world and live to be over 2 thousand years old. Redwoods have extremely thick bark that acts like armor against wildfire. This old growth redwood was almost completely hollowed out by a fire and it’s still alive. Redwood have shallow roots and need eachother to thrive and hold eachother down. You need a whole redwood forest for old growth to thrive. Logging old growth is completely unsustainable. That is why very little remains. Protect old growth forests in California and Canada before they are gone. #oldgrowthforest #logging #redwoods #wildfire #oldgrowth #bigtree #redwoodforest #mendocino #giant #ancient #redwood #trees #roots #treeroots #mushrooms #california #forest #history #native #tree #ecology #Sustainability #endangeredspecies #salmon #ecosystem #secondgrowth #fire #cali #nativeplants #sonomacounty #habitat #restoration #plantlover #nativeplanttok #nativehabitatproject #forestcore
We out here chilling in a old growth redwood forest that thrives of frog next to the California coast with the 2nd largest slugs in the world the Bannana slug. These amazing pacific banana slugs look like slimy boogers and thrive in the redwood forest eating mushrooms and detritus. Banana slugs are so slimy that they can bun-jee down trees and even choke some predators. Banana slugs are a sign of a healthy old growth forest ecosystem and show how truly amazing Californias native biodiversity is.
