On April 5, 2023, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) released a statement in regard to false information circulating on social media about the use of mRNA vaccines in cattle: “There are no current mRNA vaccines licensed for use in beef cattle in the United States. Cattle farmers and ranchers do vaccinate cattle to treat and prevent many diseases, but presently none of these vaccines include mRNA technology.” mRNA vaccines could potentially be a game-changer for cattle health. They could help prevent disease faster and more effectively, reduce the need for antibiotics, and support healthier herds. Healthier animals mean better-quality beef and more sustainable ranching. As ranchers, we support tools that are safe, effective, and benefit both our animals and consumers. There is ongoing research on mRNA vaccines in cattle, and while the verdict is still out, we’re cautiously optimistic about the future of cattle health.
