🎉 The year of the chunky granny square 👏🏼 What’s crazy is that at this time last year, I wasn’t even working with chenille yarn 🤯 I first began experimenting with it as dog fur for my jumbo pet stuffies, but once I made my first granny square, I knew chenille yarn was the way to go. I have seriously been blown away by the growth and support these squares have brought Stay Cozy, and I’m incredibly grateful. Not only have I gotten to expand my skill set, but I’ve also opened a new door for my business. Before this year, every tutorial I had ever shared was FREE. This is obviously amazing for everyone who has used them and learned from them, and it was super great practice for me learning how to share my knowledge through video the last 6 years. But it was time to start charging (a bit) for my expertise. Don’t worry, I still share a LOT of free content and my YouTube channel is full of videos from the past 6 years, but I also plan to continue making and selling new designs! I have a lot of ideas, and I’ve done this long enough to know they won’t all come to life in 2025 🙃 but I also know I will keep doing what I can do and sharing what I learn along the way. Replying to @Stay Cozy Creative Co I’m already missing working on this giraffe 🥹 As a creator who’s also an instructor, yarn supplier, and tutorial creator, I find that my time often oscillates and my focus is always shifting. I’ve felt my “creating” time dwindle over the holidays, but I have so many ideas and can’t wait to jump back in to some new projects. Here are a few ideas I’ve had percolating… 1) Freebie Friday: sharing a free, simple tutorial on Fridays. Tomorrow is Friday so it might be a good time to start… 2) Reusing/Repurposing: this is something I think about a LOT. I’m always making small efforts to reuse materials while packing orders and saving yarn scraps to sell or use on a future project. But I have some bigger ideas and can’t wait to take steps to make them a reality. 3) More tutorials: this really comes down to discipline and confidence for me. I have one tutorial fully recorded on my phone that I just need to finish editing and release. And I have SO many original designs I could share, but just haven’t yet. It’s hard deciding what direction to go and I’ve let that paralyze me for a while. Anywho. 2024 was a big shift… I knew I wanted to make more tutorials and start selling them, but I also knew I couldn’t keep pushing custom orders at the same time. Some people may be able to do a lot at once, but I’ve learned that I’m best when I focus on one thing at a time. I’ve also been prone to burnout in the past, so I find I’m protective of myself and my family when thinking about my capacity for the year. I still took orders, but it was way less than the year before. I’m one person with a limited amount of time and energy, and I have a hard time shifting gears. So I slowed down in one area to make room for another. It’s been such a good shift. Without the constant physical labor of making, I was able to do more mental labor through pattern design, content creation, and tutorial production. I also had more flexibility in my schedule and released the guilt of “not doing enough”. So here’s to 2025.
