3 quick strategies to reduce anxiety and stimulate the vagus nerve which in turn helps support digestion and acid reflux prevention ✨🤍 ✨ Why Does Stimulating the Vagus Nerve & Reducing Anxiety Help with Digestion and Acid Reflux? ✨ When you’re stressed or anxious, your body’s “fight-or-flight” mode kicks in, taking energy away from your digestive system. This can lead to issues like slow digestion, acid reflux, and discomfort. Here’s how activating the vagus nerve helps bring things back to balance: 🔹 Vagus Nerve & Digestion The vagus nerve is like the body’s relaxation switch, connecting the brain to the digestive tract. Stimulating it activates the “rest-and-digest” response, helping improve gut motility and reduce acid production, which can ease acid reflux symptoms. 🔹 Anxiety & Gut Health Stress heightens the release of stomach acid, which may trigger reflux. When anxiety is managed, the gut has a better chance to work smoothly, reducing the frequency of reflux episodes. 🔹 How to Stimulate the Vagus Nerve Try slow, deep breathing, gargling, humming, tapping, eye stretching, yoga, and mindfulness practices to activate this powerful nerve! Just a few minutes a day can make a big difference in calming both mind and body, giving your digestive system the support it needs. 👉 Want more insights into managing reflux naturally? If you are feeling anxious, go grab yourself a glass of water. Something as simple as gargling water can help calm your nervous system. It might sound strange, but there is real science around it. Everyone has a vagus nerve. It’s a nerve that acts like a superhighway in your body that connects your brain to most of your major organs, including your heart, lungs, and gut. It plays a crucial role in your “rest-and-digest” mode, helping your body feel safe, calm, and balanced. It also is responsible for the gut brain access- the communication from the brain to the gut and the gut back to the brain. Yes! They communicate back-and-forth throughout the day. When you’re feeling anxious, your vagus nerve might not be functioning as well as it should. This keeps your body stuck in “fight or flight” mode, making it harder to relax and think clearly. •	Gargling activates muscles in your throat that are connected to the vagus nerve. •	This stimulation sends calming signals to your brain, shifting your body out of panic mode and into relaxation mode. A healthy vagus nerve is important because it 💧 Helps regulate your heart rate and breathing. 💧 Lowers stress hormones like cortisol. 💧 Balances your mood and improves your resilience to stress. So, the next time you feel anxiety creeping in, head to the sink and gargle some water for 30 seconds. It’s quick, free, and surprisingly effective! 👉Follow @overcomingfightorflight and let me know if you have tried this hack before? So happy to have a trough at home and don’t have to drive to the lake for cold water plunges. I’m able to get colder temps in my trough. Lake usually got down to low 40s. My trough as you can see was frozen. I have several issues physical and psychological that I e baths help with. My main focus is stimulating my vagus nerve to help with my anxiety and depression. Especially after the loss of my father. I’m walking a thin line right now of spiraling depression. So I need all the tricks that help me. I also have always enjoyed ice baths when I was an athlete I love an ice bath after marathon training runs. It also helps with mental toughness. I also suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome and this helps soothe my body aches that come with it. If you do an ice bath or cold water swim be safe. Research wster temps and hypothermia time limits. Your body will shut down so you m just plan. Especially wster below freezing. When I did the lakes the temp was only low 40s so I had longer to warm up but I brought hot tea with me for the short drive home. The trough is colder so I have a hot shower ready for me when I come in. #coldewatertherapy #wimhof #arcticplunge #icebath #MentalHealth #vagusnervestimulation #vagusnerve
