🌹pleasures remain, so does the pain, words are meaningless, and forgettable...🌹 today is the day we have been dreading the most... depechecember presents the seventh studio album by @Depeche Mode 1990’s violator after the success of music for the masses, the band knew that alternative rock was the path moving forward, and employed producer mark “flood” ellis (nine inch nails, smashing pumpkins, erasure) to oversee the album that would bring the band into the nineties martin gore leaned into influences from blues, country, classical, gospel, and more when crafting the sound of violator, and you can hear the bluesy influences in songs like personal jesus, policy of truth, and sweetest perfection (sung by gore) but you can still feel those gothic and visceral vibes that the band is known for in tracks like halo, world in my eyes, and enjoy the silence this album was a top ten in both the united kingdom and the united states, and went 7x platinum worldwide. depeche mode welcomed the nineties with what many consider their greatest album, with its very sexy and sinister lyrics coupled with its haunting alternative grooves, earning them widespread critical acclaim however, with this monumental success came tensions between the band members, and things began to unravel following the conclusion of their world violation tour this is one of my favorite albums of all time, i very rarely call an album a “no skip” but this is indeed a no skip, every track on here is excellent, from the spooky downbeat waiting for the night to the honky tonky personal jesus, every track here is worth a listen. fully embracing alternative rock really brought out the best from the band #vinyltok #musictok #vinyl #vinylgirl #vinylcollection #depechemode #davegahan #martingore #alanwilder #andyfletcher #violator #enjoythesilence #personaljesus #policyoftruth #alternativerock #synthpop #nineties #nowspinning #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

✝️ i’m not looking for absolution, forgiveness for the things i do, but before you come to any conclusion, try walking in my shoes… ✝️ the black celebration continues with perhaps one of the saga’s darkest chapters. for today’s depechecember, we will be looking at @Depeche Mode’s eighth studio album, 1993’s songs of faith and devotion when recording this album, tensions within the band reached a breaking point. the discord led martin to write some of his darkest lyrics, alan to craft some of his heaviest beats, fletch to lay down some booming bass lines, and dave to give some of his best vocal performances incorporating elements of gospel, grunge, chamber pop, and trip hop, depeche mode laid down some of their most wickedly darkest material yet, and the brooding and confrontational alternative rock went on to be a number one record in both the united kingdom and the united states, going 4x platinum worldwide this is the last album with alan wilder, he left the band in 1995 citing exhaustion and creative differences. despite the band almost breaking up, they continued as a trio this is an amazing record. from grunge-inspired bangers like walking in my shoes, mercy in you, and i feel you, to dark yet soulful tracks like judas and condemnation, this album is extremely dark yet well crafted, it’s not overwhelming and feels very organic in its heaviness. a surprising track is one caress, a sinister chamber pop cut sung by martin gore. you can feel the darkness within the band on this record and feel a sense of relief that everybody made it out of the darkness alive #vinyltok #musictok #vinylgirl #vinyl #vinylcollection #depechemode #martingore #davegahan #alanwilder #andyfletcher #songsoffaithanddevotion #sofad #walkinginmyshoes #ifeelyou #condemnation #inyourroom #alternativerock #synthpop #nineties #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

⚜️ don’t say you’re happy, out there without me, i know you can’t be, cause it’s no good… ⚜️ happy depechecember! after a short break, the black celebration marches on…today, we are spinning @Depeche Mode’s ninth studio album, ultra ⚜️ after the devotional tour, alan wilder left depeche mode citing exhaustion and creative differences, the band continued as a trio as a result. they hired tim simenon (bomb the bass, neneh cherry) to produce their ninth studio album things were not easy. in the mid 90s, dave was battling substance addiction and was fighting to get clean. martin and fletch were unsure if dave was ever gonna show up let alone stay alive. however, after several brushes with oblivion, dave went to rehab, got clean, and rejoined his band to finish the record the band continued its 90s alt rock sound that they fostered in violator and sofad, but were heavily influenced by trip hop and big beat. tim simoneon forged a sound that had more breakbeats giving it that iconic late 90s sound the album certainly had a much more warmer and tender sound than sofad, and was a hit in both the united kingdom and the united states. the band embarked on a short club tour to promote the album and appeared on television as well, but opted to not go on a world tour due to dave’s health issues this record has a much more endearing and welcoming sound than sofad. although sofad is a masterpiece, this album is a much easier listen. my favorite songs are home, sisters of the night, and it’s no good #vinyltok #musictok #vinyl #vinylgirl #vinylcollection #depechemode #ultra #itsnogood #barrelofagun #alternativerock #synthpop #triphop #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #nineties #nowspinning #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

🪽 i won’t be offended, if i’m left across the great divide, believe me they will follow, just to watch another angel die… 🪽 WELCOME TO THE DEPECHECEMBER FINALE tonight, the black celebration ends with @Depeche Mode’s fifteenth and most recent album, memento mori, released in 2023 during the covid-19 pandemic in 2020, martin reflected on his advancing age and witnessing the fragility of life. this especially hit him hard when fletch passed away in 2022, and he wrote songs reflecting on mortality and grief working together face to face in the studio without fletch’s friendly peacemaking presence had the potential of being a disaster, but martin and dave realized that they’ve loved each other all along despite their years at odds, and recording went smoothly under the guidance of producers james ford and martha salogni the morbid brooding reflective themes of the inevitability of death and the fear of loss permeate throughout the album, with songs like ghosts again, don’t say you love me, soul with me, and never let me go playing on themes that contemplate mortality deeply the grooves are spooky yet danceable, the gothic themes don’t hamper the fact that it’s still an alternative rock album. martin uses both analog and digital synthesizers, so it’s got a little of that bleep bloop that we expect from the band this album is very moody and dark, and despite that, it’s very enjoyable. dave leans into his aging baritone terrifically, and martin proves yet again that he’s a brilliant songwriter. my favorite song is wagging tongue, written by dave so, with that, depechecember comes to an end. thank you for joining the black celebration and hoped you enjoyed the ride we love you and miss you, fletch 🕊️ #vinyltok #musictok #vinylgirl #vinyl #vinylcollection #depechemode #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #mementomori #ghostsagain #waggingtongue #alternativerock #synthpop #2020s #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

🪷 as the darkness closes in, in my head i hear whispering, questioning and beckoning, but i’m not taken in… 🪷 welcome devotees to another day of depechecember! the black celebration continues with their tenth studio album and their twentieth anniversary outing exciter from 2001 @Depeche Mode with dave clean and sober and invigorated with a fire to create, the band hit the studio with producer mark bell (lfo, björk) to craft their tenth lp. they decided to go more experimental and electronic, after four lp’s of an alternative rock sound with bell, they crafted sounds that were more downbeat and atmospheric, creating a synthpop sound that fans haven’t heard from the band in years but modern sounding enough for the new century this approach divided critics and fans. many appreciated a return to a more electronic sound while others criticized the album for being unfocused and lacking proper bangers. regardless, it was a top ten hit in both the united kingdom and the united states the exciter world tour was a return to form for the band, as they haven’t toured since the devotional tour of 1994 (the band didn’t tour for ultra due to dave’s health problems), it was the most successful tour for the band up to that point this record was difficult to listen to. like i recognize dave’s voice but this doesn’t sound like a depeche mode album, it sounds like someone else made a record and had dave sing on it. i can’t recognize martin and fletch’s contributions to the album, but i understand why they did what they did #vinyltok #musictok #vinylgirl #vinyl #vinylcollection #depechemode #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #exciter #synthpop #alternativerock #electronica #y2k #ifeelloved #dreamon #goodnightlovers #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

🪶 precious and fragile things, need special handling, my god what have we done to you? 🪶 happy depechecember! the black celebration marches into the mid 2000’s with @Depeche Mode’s eleventh studio album, playing the angel after the exciter tour, dave embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut solo album and going on tour to support it. with a newfound sense of creativity, he demanded to write songs for depeche mode, something main songwriter martin gore did not want to concede to things became tense until fletch brokered a deal to allow dave to write a few songs for each record, and things went back on track for the band. for this album, they returned to the alternative rock sound they were famous for while it did have undisputed bangers like john the revelator, lilian, and a pain that i’m used to, a stand out track is suffer well, written by dave, and it earned the band a grammy nomination the religious themes concerning suffering and redemption were motivated largely by martin’s own personal struggles at the time, including a relapse to alcoholism and an emotionally draining divorce; precious specifically was about the trauma his children experienced from the divorce and the guilt he felt from it this album was a top ten in many countries, including the us and the uk, and while many viewed it as a return to form, some felt it lacked the innovation and creativity that is typically expected from the band, claiming it was too “safe” a record this album is excellent, it’s a great alternative rock album that doesn’t date itself and has many anthemic bangers, many feel that this was dm’s last great album, but i disagree—stick around for the home stretch, their four most recent albums! #vinyltok #musictok #vinylgirl #vinylcollection #vinyl #depechemode #playingtheangel #sufferwell #precious #johntherevelator #lilian #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #alternativerock #synthpop #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

🪐 i was born in the wrong sign, in the wrong house, with the wrong ascendency, took the wrong road, that led to, the wrong tendencies… 🪐 welcome devotees to another day of depechecember. while the black celebration leads us to the late 2000s, it feels like the early 1980s with their twelfth studio album sounds of the universe @Depeche Mode after their touring the angel world tour, martin gore had an itch to revisit the bleep bloop analog sounds that depeche mode was known for in the 1980s, and coordinated with producer ben hiller to craft an analog retro vibe to their new album dave gahan released a second solo album and tour during the time between playing the angel and recording a new album with depeche mode, and the new arrangement with the band saw him contribute hole to feed, miles away/the truth is, and little soul the analog synths are on full display here, the opening track in chains features the humming sound of analog synths warming up to let listeners know that this was certainly gonna be a bleep bloop album, and it doesn’t break its promise. there are still tinges of alternative rock strung about, but this is bleep bloop in its core you know what, for being a bleep bloop synthpop album…i actually enjoy this. not too much, like this is not one of my favorite dm albums by a long shot, but the fact that they wanted to pay tribute to their analog origins after years of being an alternative rock band is commendable. my favorite song on the album is wrong, a nightmare fueled synthpop track that gives me the creeps, but in a good way #vinyltok #musictok #vinylgirl #vinyl #vinylcollection #depechemode #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #synthpop #alternativerock #soundsoftheuniverse #holetofeed #2000smusic #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

🔺i come to your house, break down the door, girl i’m shaking, i need more… 🔺 it’s another beautiful day of depechecember! the black celebration gets a little soulful today with @Depeche Mode’s thirteenth lp, 2013’s delta machine…which also marks the first depeche mode lp released within my lifetime martin gore always loved soul, gospel, and the blues, and learned how to play guitar as a young boy from blues tabs published in guitar magazines. he incorporated blues as far back as music for the masses in 1987, but perhaps the most blues influenced album is violator, which saw many blues inspired hooks it’s clear that the band wanted to bring that blues sound back for this album, but took it to another level. on delta machine (“delta” for the blues hooks and “machine” for the heavy synths), it wonderfully combines the organic earthiness of blues with harsh industrial electronics. songs like soothe my soul, goodbye, and slow really bring out the blues, with martin gore’s amazing guitars and dave’s silky smooth baritone singing despite the bluesy elements, this is still depeche mode we’re talking about, not the black keys, so you’ll still hear all those glitchy chunky layered synths that the band is known and loved for. this is still a depeche mode record and a pretty good one at that this record has some great tracks, but some of the album does sound a little harsh and unwelcoming. it tries to do two things at once: replicate the bluesy feel of violator while sounding like a new record, and in doing so it loses a little focus on what it should be. this is a solid enjoyable record and what it does well, in my opinion, is showcase martin gore’s incredible guitar work #vinyltok #musictok #vinylgirl #vinyl #vinylcollection #depechemode #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #synthpop #alternativerock #deltamachine #soothemysoul #shouldbehigher #2010s #electronicmusic #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp

🚩 we’re going backwards, turning our back on history, going backwards, piling on the misery… 🚩 depechecember is almost over! the black celebration nears its end with @Depeche Mode’s fourteenth lp, spirit, released in 2017 the 2016 united states elections shook the world to its core, and the rise of the right wing in many western nations troubled many people, and martin gore, who has long espoused left wing views, was inspired to write a political album for depeche mode depeche mode are no stranger to politics, they previously explored socialist and working class themes in 1983’s construction time again the result was this alternative rock outing with deeply political songs, but depeche mode are no rage against the machine, and many felt their political themes felt heavy handed and too reactive to current events. despite this, it was a top ten hit in the united states and united kingdom while there are some solid grooves here, this record feels quite distant from their typical introspective themes. i get why they decided to do a political album (current events) but i don’t understand a lot of things they’re talking about. this is a decent album but one i will only learn to appreciate as i get older and wiser this is depeche mode’s final album with founding member andy “fletch” fletcher stay tuned for the depechecember finale tomorrow! #vinyltok #musictok #vinylgirl #vinylcollection #vinyl #depechemode #davegahan #martingore #andyfletcher #synthpop #alternativerock #2010s #spirit #wherestherevolution #goingbackwards #devotee #devotees #fy #fyp
