❄️Bucket List Arkansas Winter Hikes: Part One❄️ ✨Cedar Falls Trail is a 1.9 miles hike with 367 ft of elevation gain. Located in Petit Jean State Park, it is arguably the state’s most well known waterfall. At 95 feet high, the waterfall is roaring during our winter’s wet season ✨Ladderbucket Falls is a 3.9 mile trail with 551 ft of elevation gain and is 36 feet tall. Located in the Lost Corner area, there is no shortage of falls nearby. Even John Mountain standing at 84 feet tall is on the way to this waterfall. ✨Punchbowl Falls is a 5.1 mile hike with 1,040 feet of elevation gain. The last portion of this hike is a steep bushwhack and hikers should tread carefully, but the reward is so grand! With cliff rock walls and an emerald pool, it’s easy to see what this is a bucket list hike that I was thankful to check off earlier this year. ✨Pam’s Grotto Falls is a short 0.8 mile trail but comes with 206 feet of elevation gain making this hike a tad bit steep. Once you get to the top, you will climb over some big boulders and be greeted with the grandeur of Pam’s Grotto. ✨King’s Bluff Falls Loop Trail is 1.8 miles long and 275 feet of elevation gain. Standing at 114 feet tall, this waterfall makes one of the tallest in the state of Arkansas. The trek down to the base can be tricky in some parts, but you can still see the waterfall from the top of you don’t want to make the trip down. **Please note that winter hikes in Arkansas can be unpredictable due to changing weather and trail conditions. Always dress appropriately for warmth and check the forecast before leaving. Be mindful of ice that may be on the trail especially near the base of any waterfalls or near water. It can be as simple as a small drainage and it takes nothing to slip and get very hurt. Waterfalls in Arkansas during the icy and snowy conditions are very tempting because of the sheer beauty surrounding them, but please know your limits and tread lightly. Trekking poles or even traction cleats to put over hiking boots are always a good idea depending on the conditions. Hike safely and enjoy the beauty of season!**
